2 Answers

Sputtering, muted, crackly audio so i just bought a GV42L Vizio, every 20-30 min on SDTV the audio will either mute out, crackle, break out in a jumble of pitches for 3-5 seconds then return to normal for another 20-30 min when i play a dvd thru my upconvertering player and hdmi cable, not a single problem for the entire duration of the movie. whats the deal?

The Speaker at the base of my Vizio 47 in. HDMI LCD TV makes a sputtering sound. Does this in short bursts and long bursts. And occurs on all modalities...Cable TV thru HDMI cable or coax cable and on DVD.

Not sure this issue is related to the speaker or the signal received from the cable box and DVD player.

I appreciate any suggested solutions. Thanks.

I have cable and my vizio 42 flat screen tv has made crackly sounds. Today there is no sound at all. We just added a HD cable box but there was sound for a few days.

We have the same TV and the sound won't play on some channels on and off. Then sometimes sound from one channel will play on another channel. It will make a loud crackle sound and then no sound at all will play.

I have a GV42L 42" manufactured in march 2007. It works perfect except the screen has a fracture on it. The warrabty is voided because we damaged the screen. I can sell this to somone who has a good screen but needs boards or speakers, etc. Or I will buy your tv that has a good screen but damaged boards in it.

Press and hold the 'Mute' button on your remote for 5 seconds to ensure your screen isn't muted. Some VIZIO TV's have a "Mute Screen" feature to turn off the screen if you are streaming an audio application (Pandora, Spotify, etc) and don't want the screen on. https://support.vizio.com/s/article/No-Video-No-Picture-Black-Screen

GV42L HDTV picture ok but no sound.

Check whether the audio is muted by accidental press at remote control button. Enter its sound menu, and check it. If muted, as you know there will be no audio output. If not muted, check the speaker/s. If found OK; check and replace the damaged component/s at its audio output section circuit board. If needy, replace this board as card basis. The sound has become very low and crackly, and when I add external speakers, I get crackling and/or a big squealing. It worked fine until 3 days ago model T61 7662 CTO

My first impression is that the reason for the crackling and the squealing on external spreakers is probably from the onboard mic. My first suggestion would be to go into the sound settings and mute the microphone and see if the problem still exists. If it has gone then I would clean the area where the mic is of just keep it muted and use an external one.

Vizio GV42l buzzing

Vizio makes an ok LCD, but if you notice they no longer make plasma. they stopped last year. Anyways. the buzzing sound is semi serious, it sounds as though you have a capacitor leaking. It is best to get it fixed before it goes out all the way, with it buzzing it will be easier to identify. Best of luck

Mute is on when I turn my vizio on. How do I

The OSD consists of several menu options: Picture Adjust, Audio Adjust, TV Tuner Setup, Parental Controls,PIP Set Up, or Special Features. When in the TV menu, select the Audio Adjust and make sure the mute is off. It may be worth checking the manual which is avialble from: http://www.vizio.com/downloads.aspx

GV42L

I had this same problem. Vizio sent someone out to replace the motherboard. It didn't fix the problem. Since it was under warranty, they replaced it with a newer model VU42L. Doesn't have this problem, but it has others.
