Hi lchangkee...
If you want to upgrade your ram, all you do is remove the ram that is in the computer, and replace it with compatible ram (same number) an example of that would be if your ram was SODIMM 512MB PC2100 DDR 266 512 MB LAPTOP 200pin MEMORY, then that is the type of ram you will want to replace it with but more like this.
SODIMM 2GB PC2100 DDR 266 512 MB LAPTOP 200pin MEMORY notice the only thing that changed was the amount from 512 mb to 2 gb. Most memory cards can be removed without any problem...refer to your owners manual as to where the ram is located Please take time to rate me

How can I upgrade/improve the capabilities of my Inspiron 1200

The best and quickest improvement is to add more RAM. Add another 512 Mb of RAM. If you already have a 512 Mb of RAM module then add another 512 Mb RAM module. If your laptop has 2X256 Mb RAM modules then you need to remove these and insert 2X512 Mb RAM modules.
The reason why you have 504 Mb RAM is that the video card has grabbed 8Mb of RAM off the main memory.

He,Hi This is Abhishek from India.I wanna 2 attach an external RAM of 512MB.Will it support or not?

Hi Abhishek, not sure what you mean by "external" RAM? If you have Vista then you can use a USB drive as extra RAM using "ReadyBoost" - see link (it is Wikipedia so info could be wrong):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Readyboost

If you are looking to add additional RAM to your motherboard then the Aspire 3000 will take up to 2GB of DDR333 (2x1GB modules). See link to manual here:

Can I get more memory?

it is unlikly that you can put more most systems can only handle one extra card. if you need extra space then get a bigger size card and put it in this way:

turn it off
flip it over
get a screwdriver
unscrew the hatch with a computer chip symbol on it
and press the two side tabs, and the card will flip up
gently pull it out by shifting it side to side
then insert a new card at the same angle the other one was after you clicked it open
and push it in

i do not know what memory you had saved on it but i assume you will lose some

best of luck

When i add a memory in damaged DIMM slot showing black screen?

Try moving the working DIMM to other slots, it should work in any slot, if it does, the other ram u have is incompatible or bad

Install a matched pair of DIMMs (equal in speed: DDR266, DDR333, or
DDR400; density: 64 MB, 128 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB, or 1 GB; and
technology: 128 Mb, 256 Mb, or 512 Mb) in DIMM 0 in both Channels A and

in DIMM 1 in both Channels A and B.
