I have a similar camera - there should be a slider button that lets you toggle between taking pics and viewing your pics. It is to the right of the screen (on back) and just under the selector knob on the top. When slid up (camera icon) you take pictures. When slid down (square with arrow icon) you view pics. Horizontal lines in viewer and also in pictures
This is ccd imager chip problem, that chip will be replaced in your Canon A75 camera to get correct live view in camera mode to take pictures.

Pictures are all black
If camera shows previously taken pictures in playback mode and does not show live view to take fresh pictures then it is ccd imager chip failure. CCD imager will be replaced in your Canon A75 camera.

My screen wont take pictures, it has a purple background and the screen keeps flashing. When I take a picture the screen comes up purple and you cant see the picture.

I think you can not see live view in Canon A75 to take picture.
If its correct then it is problem of bad cd imager sensor and that part requires replacement.

Its matter of bad CCD Imager in camera so you see pink distorted live image on lcd.

CCD Imager needs to be replaced in Canon A75 camera.
