Worth fixing? with the unit off, lightening struck nearby my house. When I turn on the unit now, I get only aloud 'clicking' sound. Everything lights up. Is this worth taking to a service shop and having it looked at? I have unplugged, plugged it in, etc. As soon as a I plug the unit in the clicking begins. Using the power button makes no difference at all.
Thanks
But if you insert a tape, the clicking sound starts again, and it will be difficult to get the tape out from the cassette-player / deck. //DavidBut if you insert a tape, the clicking sound starts again, and it will be difficult to get the tape out from the cassette-player / deck. //David

lightening means ,it seems to be a big problem .I think repairing may
not worth, because the repairing will be very high for this problem ,so
repairing is not suggested from my point of view
any answer here will be pure guessing. and the cost versus the risk of not working by replacing all four boards may make it worth buying a new tv instead.
if you were to try and fix it i would not do anything more than trying to fix or replace the power supply board. . if the power surge has gone further in the electronics. its rarely worth trying to fix
Your batteries would have been weak from 5 years of use. The Lightening could of blew out one of your batteries. The UPS did it's job but at a price. I would replace the batteries first then see how it works
Obviously the tv took the hit but the dvd player was spared. check and replace the fuse in the tv if it's open. If this does not fix it then get an est and file a claim with you homeowners insurance.
