My Whirlpool Duet likes to leave a random brown streak on my clothes--like someone took a brown crayon and drew a very faint line on it. I had the repairman look at it, and he said he never saw anything like it. I have cleaned the rubber boot on the front (three times!), scrubbed on the entire drum and cleaned both the door and the front where the door closes. Any suggestions?? The repairman said replacing the boot may help, but he's not positive either.
Check an earlier post of mine. This problem was killing me and Whirlpool was of no help at all. They claimed to never have heard of these thin brown streaks. Well, it was the dryer and as proof, I found where the thin brown lines were coming from. The felt had worn out in one spot allowing thin, whites and other thin items to slide in between the drum and the backing, resulting in the transfer of a thin brown line randomly on my clothes. Replace the felt (rollers and bearings if necessary) and with the drum apart, clean off the burnt brown streak of the backing with Simple Green. No more problems.

Does your drum move if u grab it and try to move it up or down if so bearings are collasping they have grease in them which could explain the brown streak had many a washer do it if not change door seal

Thank you. That's it...your solution is correct and it has nothing to do with the washing machine.
I put a folded handkerchief between the drum and the frame and moved it along the felt gasket. Voila, I replicated the steaks with the machine off and cool.
Funny, I had the same problem with a fishing reel because the clearance between the spool and the frame was letting line get caught in between.
Now the question is how much will it cost to replace the problem parts vs buy a new dryer?
Thanks again,
Leonard

My whirlpool duet is leaving faint brown streaks on my clothes . I don't know if is the washer or the dryer that is the problem. The streaks cannot be removed. My washer and dryer are 2 years old. The washer seal was replaced about 8 months ago.
I have the exact same problem as the others have mentioned. A brown crayon like streak that cannot be removed with bleach or any other stain cleaner. I have had the Whirlpool Duet washer and dryer for 3 years. I have had the pump and the boot replaced already. I was told to wipe the ring around the seal and under the seal on the washer to eliminate this problem, but it is still happening.
I too am having this problem. I don't know if its the wash or the dryer. I have had my duet pair for around 4 years. This is really aggravating and wish I had of known before We purchased these. It has ruined so many of our clothes.
same problem, actually seems worse at lower temperature. Streaks only on whites.
These brown streaks have ruined so many of our clothes. If we would have known, we could have purchased a new machine and been $ ahead! I've tried bleach, cleaner ordered spefically for this machine by the technician that came to our home (several times), vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, Cascade, and more. Nothing works. The technician said our bearings are fine. If in fact it's mold on the drum, I'm wondering about the health effects of washing our clothes in this mess of a machine. We will never buy from Whirlpool again.
The streaks are probably burn marks.
