Playback is restricted

I have placed a mini DV into my camera for playback and it gives me this message "incorrect tape specification playback is restricted. I don't understand. Thanks Carol

I have the same problem. I recorded the video onto my miniDV tape on the Canon ZR800. I tried playing the tape via playback mode and it is not working. I get the same "incorrect tape specifications playback is restricted."

Did you record that tape on that machine? This message usually indicates that you are trying to play a tape recorded on a PAL machine on a NTSC machine, or vice versa. (PAL and NTSC are designations used for televisions. North America, most of South America, Japan, and a few other areas use NTSC; most of the rest of the world uses PAL.)

SOURCE: JVC mini Dv GR-D720E has small squares on playback

Indeed it seems that there was a really stubborn bit of dirt on the heads. I had to use the cleaning tape several times to ultimately have a clear picture on record and playback.
thanks again ,but successive cleaning can help for an effective cleaning of the tape path and heads.

SOURCE: cannot playback a mini dv

Hello!

Looking into your problem, I've found the next advise:
You need to set the playback to be either HD or SD depending on the clip. Mixing them on the same tape is never a good idea, but setting the option to match the video format should resolve this.

On the trubleshooting section of the Instruction Manual it states that this error occurs "when the playback standard is already set in the camcorder, you attempted to play back a tape in a video standard different from that set".

To change the video standard (Playback STD), please refer to pg. 95 on the manual.
Note that the FireWire should be disconnected when accessing the settings!

In case of a problem or clarification or my solution was insufficient, don't hesitate to post me a reply before rejecting my answer.
If you are satisfied, rate my solution with the "thumbs" or (even better) add a testimonial.

Good luck & best regards,
Pelu.

I had a Sony HD mini dv camcorder back in 2007-08. I no longer have it so I purchased a canon on eBay. When I try and play the tapes I get incorrect tape specifications playback restricted. Now what

Nothing wrong with the Canon, but you cannot expect one piece of equipment to play tapes recorded a dozen years ago on equipment of a different make.

Your best bet will be to find someone to transfer the tapes to DVD for you.

Broken need new one

i guess, if you need a new camera with this specific model, the best thing you can do is to do an internet search to check camera availability from online dealers. the camera is a discontinued model, it may no longer be available from sony directly.since this is a european model and records in pal, probably it would still be available from european dealers. if you have issue with trying to playback and capture videos from the tape you may also try searching for sony mini dv video walkman gvhd700e to playback tape and use its available usb or ilink jacks for computer connectivity.hope this helps:)

Distorted sound on playback, samsung mini dv camcorder.

Try a DV tape cleaner first. If that doesn't work, see what it would take to get the audio heads realigned. Any camera store can do that for you.

Tapes won't Playback in other deivice

Hello! If the recorded tapes playback ok on the camera and not ok on another devices, you need to readjust the playback on this camera using a tape which playbacks fine on the other devices. This means that is a small difference on the tape transport. So when the supply and takeup post rollers readjusted and the audio and video playback are good, then your camera is fine.
