Question about Hoover Nextra HNT 2135 Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Hoover My washing machine won't start because I slammed the lid down. I think it is because when you close the lid, the plastic part on the lid pushes something down (located on the left hand side, not in the middle by the switchboard), which I have found, like a metal rod, and it is lose now? Any help here?

Hi there, I had the same problem, just insert a peg where the slot is and the machine will start. Make sure you pull the rod forward, and make sure the bottom of the peg is holding onto it. You can see the machine washing/spinning, so be careful. Lid will close fully;o)

Yep, you most likely are looking at disassembly of washer to re-install the lid switch mechanism. that metal rod likely leads to some sort of switch.

Hoover elite 700 washing machine won't spin

There are several reasons that a washing machine won't drain or spin. The cause could be something as easy as a clog or something difficult that will need a licensed repairman. Start with the simplest possible cause and work down to the more difficult causes.

INSTRUCTION BELOW
# A washing machine won't spin if the water can't drain. Check hoses for any kinks or clogs that may prevent the water from draining. If a hose has kinks, try to straighten out the kinked hose. If it can't be straighten sufficiently, replace the hose. If hoses are not kinked, check for clogged hoses. This can be done by using the screwdrivers to remove the hoses and looking for clogs or running a water hose through the clogged hose to remove the clog. Use the rags and bucket to clean up the water that comes out of the hoses when they are disconnected. Once the clog is cleared, put the drain hose back into place. The washer should drain and spin now if a clogged or kinked hose was the problem.
# 2 If the washer still won't drain or spin, check to see if the lid is not closing all the way or if the lid switch is not clicking into place. Close the lid and make sure that it closes all the way down. When the lid closes, the lid switch should click. If there is no clicking sound, then the switch may need to be replaced. Follow manufacturer's directions for replacing the switch. If the lid does not close all the way, visually check for signs that the lid is bent. If bent, try to bend it back into place.
# 3 Loose or broken belts could also prevent a washing machine from draining or spinning. Pull the washer away from the wall and, using the screwdrivers and wrenches, remove the back panel. Using the flashlight, visually check for any broken or loose belts. Replace any broken or loose belts. Although replacing washing machine belts is difficult, anyone who has replaced belts on a car, lawn mower or even a bicycle chain should be able to accomplish the task.
# 4 Another possibility for a washing machine to not spin or drain is the pump. With the back panel still off the washer, check the pump with the voltmeter to ensure that the pump is getting power. If the washer is getting power, turn on the washer and listen to find out if the pump is running but the water is still not draining. It may be necessary to remove the pump and clean it or to replace the pump with a new one. Once the pump is replaced, turn on the washer to determine if it will now drain and spin.
# 5 If all of the above steps fail to produce a washing machine that drains or spins, then it is time to call a professional repairman. Use the screwdrivers and wrenches to replace the panel on the washer and push it back against the wall

Hi, I have a maytag washing machine. When I close the lid it doesn't always start agitating. It seems that slamming the lid will get it to start, maybe it is just repeated openning and closing that...

Hi, I know this model because I have one exactly as yours and I fixed it a couple of time. Your problem seems to be the lid switch assembly. Your wiil find it for less than $40 at partselect.ca or at the place of your choice. Before buying it make sure that the lid is not loose, if it is, just replace the lid hinge balls (2). If the lid is not loose you might have the lid switch checked by the appropriate person for looseness or breakage. That switch is located under the timer. You will also notice a small bulge on the lid facing the switch. It should be intact or it will not activate the switch.

You may can slightly bent the part the lid contacts so it will be depressed further thereby making the switch. If that doesn't work then you will need to replace the switch.

Top loader washing machine - won't work unless I slam down the top door. Any suggestions? Thanks

I think it is in the lid switch. If the lid switch is malfunctioning on a maytag top loader it will not start washing. Probably by slamming the lid you are making the connection you need for the time being. It is located at the back underneath the lid in the middle. Follow the link and you will see and diagram and parts associated with your washer. http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/getSubComp.pd?modelNumber=A4910&productCategoryId=0153000&brandId=3048&modelName=MAYTAG-LAUNDRY&diagramPageId=00002&componentDescription=TOP COVER, CONSOLE & LID SWITCH

The switch that makes it think it's closed is broken.

You are referring to the lid switch. If it's visible, try tightening the screws that hold it to the cabinet (they may be loose and the lid strike can't engage the switch properly). If you can, feel underneath where the lid switch is located and see if it's broken from where it mounts (feels loose). Push the lid switch lever down, if it doesn't "click" or doesn't start the wash, replace the lid switch and you should be good to go.
If you want, post your model number to make sure it's the model I'm thinking of and I can also try and get you the part number for the lid switch.
