There is no need to change the mode. When the document is loaded on the document feeder, the screen displays "DOCUMENT LOADED" and shall copy or scan this document. To copy or scan from glass, DO NOT LOAD ANY DOCUMENT IN THE FEEDER. The printer will automatically copy / scan from glass.

Line down side of document when copying - changed cartridge but this did not help used cleaning mode this did not help

Might I assume that you are using the Automatic Document Feeder(ADF) to make your copies?

Put a document on the Flat Bed Glass and copy it. I bet there is no line. Lift up the copy section so you can see the glass. To the left is a thin glass. Clean it. Glass cleaner and a lint free cloth.

Try your copies again. They should be good

HP 3055 printing black lines when using collate feature to copy

All you need to do is to clean the small wide glass (that at the LEFT of the main flat big class). The Auto Document Feeder (ADF) specifically uses this glass to scan for copy (and fax). When it is dirty (such as small dirt or particles on the surface which is easy to gain in long run), it will create thin vertical line(s) as the result.

HP 3055 model scaner problem

Document feeder error means that the printer is expecting you to have a document in the ADF "automatic Document Feeder" on top. If you are having this on the laptop, go into the scanner set up on your laptop, and change the device from document feeder to flatbed. It should work fine. You can also mimic the settings from your desktop to your laptop.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Solution: I found a very small piece of paper between the glass and the scanner housing. The lamp's seen that and sent the error message. Nobody find that little stucked paper and the "IT expert" sad: need to buy a new machine because he can't repair it. So, sometimes the solution is very easy just need some attention. :)
