you can safely install up to a 80 GB HDD in that compaq. When getting into the bios go to the boot sequence section and change the boot squence to be CD=>HDD=>FLOPPY or FLOPPY=>CD=>HDD
Hi there. If you have just bought the laptop chances are the operating has been removed to you cannot see any data that used to be on it, you need to go and purchase a windows OS that the laptop was built for (i'm guessing XP) and re-install the operating system again.
The problem is that you need to boot up the laptop with the CD as the first boot device so you can then install Windows XP.
If you press F12 a boot up you will get a list of alternate boot devices oher than the hard disk as the first boot device, which was set up in the BIOS. Select the CD as the first boot device and when prompted press the space bar to start the CD.
Ok, on the laptop. This is where your problem lies. Your glide pad is fighting you. When you boot up, press Del, F2 or F10 to enter bios screens. You want to change the property value for your pointer, from mose and glide pad to mouse only or serial. Anything that doesn't include your glide pad.
Right click on the desktop and go to the properties option.Click on the Screen Saver Tab and will find Power option . Click on it and check the power schemes
You need a floppy drive and a startup disk, because that is
the only thing that the motherboard will read (i think) in that kind of
problem. But ok if you really dont have that items, try this disconnect
all the motherboard connectors, like IDE, SATA, & POWERSUPPLY, also
temporarily remove all hardware cards connected on motherboard like,
Modem, LAN, Video Card, etc. Then you also need to remove the CMOS
Battery, its like a silver coin on your motherboard, and also the
Processor & Memory. Simple NO DEVICE MUST BE CONNECTED on your
motherboard. Then just let your motherboard rest for alteast 1hr or
2hrs. After that, then assemble again your Computer. Be sure you know
how to put it back together.
Does the BIOS have a password on it.
