Problem connecting LaserJet 5L to new HP Pavillion laptop

The LaserJet 5L worked fine with an old Dell Inspiron 1500, running Windows XP. I bought an HP Pavillion Dv5, with Vista Home Premium. I downloaded the printer driver from the Operating System (HP does not have the driver on its site), and plugged in the printer. The computer said the download was successful, and the computer identified the LaserJet. However, whenever I tried to send a test message, it would stay in the queue and I would get a message that said an error had occurred (but no other info). Any idea of what the problem may be and what I can do to fix it.

The driver is on the Vista Operating System. Go to the Control Panel, check on Printers, check Add a Printer, Local Printer, then you will find the specific driver by choosing HP under Manufacturer and then the specific Model of computer.

Thanks for the tip about the 6L. I tried it, but received the same result, an error message, while the test print stayed in queue.

I spoke to an HP technical support person today. He said that the HP LaserJet 5L can only be used with Windows XP or earlier versions? Is that truw? Does anyone have the LaserJet 5L working with Vista?

I have an HP 5L and Vista Premium also. If you would tell me where you did find the driver, I will install it on my computer and possibly solve both of our problems.
Thanks

I have Solved it! Just use the HP 6L driver and rename your printer (optional) in the Control.Printers box to 5L.

    Good luck

I just installed a new ECB-3500. It works fine on

Connect your Lenovo to the ECB with a standard Ethernet cable. Assure yourself that it can talk to the internet in this configuration. If it works, it will rule out DNS and DHCP issues and will point to a wireless-only issue.
Temporarily turn off encryption on your router and see if your Lenovo can connect. If it does, turn on WEP encryption only. If that also works, go back to WPA. Wherever the process breaks down, it will tell you where your problem lies.

I have a dell inspiron 1545 which has caused me nothing but grief since my purchase in june09 a cousin has given me his old hp pavillion zt 1170. the dell has vista and the pavillion has xp which is the...

Considering the specs:
Pavillion zt1170:
Intel Mobile Pentium III-M processor (starting at 933 MHz) with SpeedStep technology. –or– Intel Celeron processor (starting at 866 MHz).
Inspiron 1545:
A minimum of an Intel® PentiumTM Dual Core

There is no comparison between the computers,.. Keep the dell and work out the issues or sell it and use the cash towards an inexpensive new unit.
I hope this helps

Installed a rangeplus adapter on dell 1000 inspiron xp sp3 home

See if you can go into safe mode by hitting the F8 key right after the dell splash screen and right before the XP splash screen comes up. If you can get into safe mode try to uninstall the rangeplus adapter and try reinstalling again after rebooting the system normally.

Network Vista Wireless Laptop to XP Desktop & Print Documents

On the desktop machine - go to the printers folder, right click the icon for the Laserjet and choose sharing (enable print sharing). You should be able to name the printer and make it accessible to anyone within the workgroup. If needed you can run the network setup wizard to change the workgroup names on both machines.

On the laptop go to add new printer and choose network printer, you should be able to browse to the desktop machine by name and choose the Laserjet as a printer (whether you want it to be the default is up to you). The laptop will download and install the drivers from the desktop pc to the laptop and set the correct network path automatically.

It goes without saying that the desktop machine must be on in order to print from the laptop in this scenario.

If not - right click on "Monitors" then click on new/key and name new key "USB Monitor" and then open this new key and on right side of the Registry editor under the (Default) right click select New - String Value this will create REG_SZ type value and name it "Driver" then double click to open it and in value data type "usbmon.dll"
Do the same thing to "Local Port" and "Standard TCP/IP Port" keys if you don't have them under Monitors key but you have them listed under AutorunsDisabled key. Then close registry editor, and restart, go to add printer/ local printer
