Hi guys their was a tunder storm last week and i was playing my playstation 3 and lighting hit and the power went off and also my ps3 is hooked up in component 2 in the back of the tv so i let the ps3 cool down a wile and so i turn on the tv i put in a PS3 Game and a blue screen pops up and says not supported mode me and my dad tried every posible thing you can think of it makes no sence but when i play movies in the ps3 it work and when i play ps2 and 1 games in the ps3 it works to but when i play any ps3 game it dosent work just a blue screen pops up and says not supported mode but i can still hear sound of the game so its the tv not my ps3 we have been at it for days trying to fix it but it dosent work so can you guys help us..... me and my dad went in the back took the ps3 cables out put them in differnt components but still a blue screen and we also went in the menues and tried to fix it but still nothing its been making me mad this whole week so can u guys PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS PROBLEM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hello there chris

If you have the red blinking light then you have the RED light of death AKA the RLOD.

The light is a warning sign to let you know something is wrong. I can give you the quick explanation, There are 2 chips on the motherboard inside the PS3, the GPU (graphics) and the CPU (brain), when playing the ps3 the solder heats up and when you finish playing it cools down, over time this will cause the soldering to crack and the chips to lose connection with the motherboard and you get the RLOD.

WHERE TO GO FROM HERE

Option 1 - Call Sony

In warranty the Price is Free, out of warranty the Price is $150, the whole process is 4-6 weeks

You can call Sony and they will collect the PS3, repair/replace, and deliver the PS3 back to you

Option 2 - Fix it your Self

You can use a PS3 fix manual to get this fixed easily and at home using household tools you probably already own.

You need to have the motherboard fixed, do to so you need to take the PS3 apart then reflow the board.

there is a great 6part video guide on YouTube to view for free. 6 videos from the same fellow, each video about 10mins long, goes over everything for you.

I actually used the videos shown by this guy to fix about 30 PS3 units with no problems, you just need a few things though like a heat gun and some thermal paste. sounds hard, but it's very easy once you start!
