Previously (2 days ago) clock on range was blank, reset by unplugging and re-plugging ac cord. Today, clock went blank again, and range began making a high pitched squeal that did not stop until the power cord was again unplugged. This squeal did not stop immediately, but diminished as if the power was slowly bleeding off.

It looks like an output transistor problem. You can't fix it by yourself; you will need to call a service. It will cost you at least 100$, so consider buying a new one good luck

Your set is shorted circuit condition. The power supply is making the noise. Unfortunately almost any of the hi current circuits will do this. If picture went out 1st look for video or hi voltage problems.

Hello there. I'm sorry to say that it sounds as if the element that actually energizes your screen is bad. It is most likely overheating. or quite poosible the power converter lost a resistor or 2.

"GE makes garbage" that's what a lot of independent servicers says about brands they can't become authorized to work on because GE for instance has factory service. What makes the repairman think the regulator is bad? It is highly unlikely to be the case.
