I had the same problem yesterday on Christmas day - sure wished I had found the whacking solution then. I tried it this morning and it seems to be working just fine now. Can only hope it stays fixed for awhile.

Had the same problem...slightly blew a fuse, then found this page.  As others stated, smacked fairly hard multiple times, and is now working.  I wish I could do that for my squeaking breaks!!!!   I also got the 33:22, or 22:32 message...I guess referring to the sensor in another post.  Thanks for the whacking advice.

    Yes, It worked for me

  • iambigslick Dec 17, 2008

Alright so I had the same exact problem. I've got the Sony CCD-TRV 138 and got the c31:22 error code and figured that with my bad luck that the "smacking it" solution wouldn't work like it did for everyone else. So I went and smacked it a couple good times, and nothing, still got the message. Next we decided to take the tape out and I gave it to my boyfriend to smack and he smacked it 2 real good times on the tape side and OMG it worked!!! I can't believe that it actually worked! Now, I'm not getting my hopes up yet, as its just been a few minutes...but I've been able to do more now than ever. Also, another reason I'm not getting my hopes up yet is that we thought it was working once before, we went and tried it and needless to say it worked...then we went to try it again and then the dreaded error happened again. So HOPEFULLY it will be completely fixed now. I'll try to report back if I remember. I'm so excited now I can record my daughters Christmas!! Thanks!! :)

These error code means that there is a problem with the take up reel. The tape up reel is responsible for "taking up the tape slack" as the tape is running. Try resetting the camcorder. This is done by removing the battery or ac power, wait 10 seconds, reapply the battery or ac power and try again. however..seems this usually happens when the tape has run out of time whilst recording, you have changed the tape....and your re-inserting the tape again for transfer trying to rewind it correct?.....either way, pull the battery off, have the power chord ready plugged in as the only power source, close the tape door...and just as it loads pull the power chord out as you just hear it try to wind up....then wait a few seconds, (your on switch is in VTR or VCR mode......quickly put the power chord back into the camera and repeatedly overide the commands by hitting the << REW button or FFW>> the camera should have bypassed the error alert and start winding the tape....just let it wind the tape for about 20 seconds...hit stop....pless PLAY > you should have normal function again. and go to where you wanted the tape to be.

The reel sensor might be the problem and indicate c31:23?....if you can open your camera try this....pull the wiring of the sensor at the socket at back it again...

Panasonic RR-930 does not backspace with or without pedal. It engages the mechanism but appears stuck when tape is inserted. Runs fine without tape in deck.

The ancient tape is junk. Buy a new one. You might also try slamming the old tape against a wall or desk to loosen up the tape layers. Then FF and RW all the way.

Perhaps, my message has already sent, but I am unable to check. I purchased a set of two new belts vor my Harman Kardon TD420 tapedeck but don't know how to install them. The larger belt (square) is...

Older cassette decks used belts from the motor to the capstan, another from the motor to an idler assy. or tape reels (FF & RR) and another belt driving the mechanical tape counter.

Some of my Hi8 tapes play in fastforward motion along with the audio, but the other tapes play just fine. What can I do?

Clean the header of your camera. Buy a different camera to play those tapes. Try looking for a tape cleaner and tape lubrificant. Some tapes go so dry and overheat while playing on your camera that they end up on a blue screen and only play on FF and most of times not even that.

A good advice is to keep your tape cold, camera cold and try again.

Dont heat your tapes.

Also try battery playback, so it does not over heat with the power supply on.

HDR-HC1 Sony camcorder- reinsert the cassette error message

Bill,

The problem is with the S-reel. Take the tape out, remove the battery, and give it a slight bump. This usually fixes the issue for a couple of weeks. I haven't heard of any permenant fixes. I took my cam into circuit city (before they closed) twice for the same issue. Very frustrating when you don't know what the issue is.

Cassette door will not open

Found more issues, got top off and door open but touch controls did not move flywheel in any mode for long and internal noise. Will abandon repair as probably too costly. Thanks

Da 38 8 track audio

This is a nice DAT recorder for its time. This unit uses a drive gear system for the FF, RR and the take up reels. Try the ff and rr, if they work, I am quessing there is a bad take up idler clutch assembly.l If the ff and rr does not work, the drive belt(s) are most likely bad. Good Luck
