Sony cd driver

I have a sony cd driver. model #crx217e-ds. I got it from my sister, I have no software. I have been looking on the sony web site for a download. I cant find it. Is there a way to get the software or is the cd driver history.

Hi, the CD doesn't actually require a "Specific Driver" in fact Windows has a "Built in Driver" that would work O.O.B. (Out Of the Box) If there is a specific driver then of course one would use that. However I think you will find that this is just an ordinary IDE CD. Simply connect it up and if it works it will "Show Up" in "My Computer" and be ready to use. If it doesn't work, then generally it is kaput.. and no amount of software shuffling will make and difference.

I replaced the dvd drive with a gdr8162b and added a sony cd/rw Crx217e-ds this computer is a dell 4600 cant get neither of the drives to work

If these drives are IDE deives then check the jumper settings on these drives.
The jumper setting for master (MA) and Slave (SL)
If one of these drives is on the same data cable as the hard drive the the jumper setting for this drive MUST be set to Slave (SL) because the hard drive will be jumpered as Master (MA).
If both of the drives are on the same data cable and the data cable is plugged into the second IDE controller then one of the drives MUST be jumpered as Master drive and the other as Slave drive.

You need to install drivers using the CD/DVD comes with your system, otherwise download from sony support web site by providing your model number.
