Great job on trying to do it both ways, scanning and copying. Try to refresh the printer by uplugging the power adapter from the printer. The power adapter is the black box behind the printer where the power cord is attached. Make sure other end of the power cord is plugged in straight to the power outlet in the wall, bypass any surge device or power strips. Plugged the power adapter back in the printer after 30 seconds. It should automatically turn on. If not, press the power button. Try scanning and copying again. If problem persists, I strongly suggest you contact Lexmark Technical Support to further investigate the hardware problem in the printer. Hope I can assist you more on this.
Form your issue that you are able to print and copy but unable to scan it is very clear that it is a software issue. Copy and scan fuctions work this way.
Copy - completely related to hardware.
Scan - related to software
uninstall and reinstall the full version software from Hp for the operation system of your computer.
Try connecting the printer to a direct wall outlet and not to a surge protector
try a partial reset
for this you need to unplug the power cable from the printer press and hold the # and the 3 buttons on the front panel and then replug the cable, do not release the fingers until you see the LCD lit up.
let the printer initialize itself and then try making a black and white copy if it makes a copy ,it should definitely scan now. for any clarifications or assistance ,feel free to contact me.
The scanner bulbs ahve gone bad.U need to get it them replaced. Before that try resetting the printer using the # and the number 6 buttons, holding them down and then inserting the power cord at the back of the printer. see if it works.
I have found that when scanning b/w documents, its helpful to start with a black and white copy, not a grayscale, pen written, or printed form a printer in grayscale mode copy, but a true black and white on the copier or fax copy. The scanner doesnt read shades of black so well and when scanning multiple page documents, my pixma tends to scan in lightly. I havent found a piece of software to do just this, batch darken what has been scanned (at least not for free). Copying before scanning is the work around. Hope this helps everyone who's had this problem. It also doesnt hurt to darken what your scanning down a notch when copying
