RCA HD52W59 HD Projection TV purchased around Feb 06.
Yesterday, after watching TV for approx 10 min. the pic/sound just shut down. The unit has power as confirmed by the green light when pushing the power button. The green light flickers and I can hear a "humming/whining" type noise as if the unit is trying to start up, but after a few seconds - the green light goes off without successful start up. Help - I'm 50 miles from the closest RCA service center. I know it's the TV, not the wall outlet, as I've used that outlet for other appliances with no problem since.
Could the TV be damaged from a power surge??? Is this something I can repair myself? Is there a schematic avail?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: No Picture/No Sound
This is very possibly a power surge, can you tell me how many times the light blinks, you probably have a bad power board now if you had a power surge.

It most likely is coming (based on model number listed here) from the high voltage transformer---ways to silence that up to and including replacing that part.
as this is a rear projection tv, I wonder if the lamp is fogging up when not in use? is the area where the tv is situated damp at all or could something have been spilt into the set?
Your symptoms exactly match this scenario: a component involved in picture & sound was failing intermittently, then progressed to a hard failure.
My suspect: a power capacitor in the power supply. They sometimes fail this way - when the dielectric breaks down completely, then the power supply fails, causing no pic/sound.
Fix: replace power supply (or the specific capacitor, if you can determine which one died).
WHAT ISTHAT WHEN MY TV MAKE NOISES THEN STOP FOR AMINUTE ONCE THE PICTURE IS THER THEN 10 MINUTES IS CUTOFF LIKE ITS TRYING TO COME BACK ON WITH THE SAME NOISES
The beeping sound is most likely the high voltage generator needing replacement. This is a fairly easy job if you have some tech support to discharge the picture tube. You can go to the following link and leave them an email with your model number and your symptom and they will email you back with the part you need and they provide free tech support with instant messageing so you can do the repair yourself. the HV generator takes about a half hr to replace and takes only the basic soldering ability. heres the link. http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
The service # is hd52w59 and then something like yx1 or etc..... On the model # tag, this is written in very small writing. There is no way to remove the convergence option. Go to menu the set up and there you should find convergence. Choose convergence and run auto converge. If this does not work then there is a failure on the convergence power supply, convergence amp, or the deflection/power bd.
