Battery went dead from non-use. When I attempted tostart up, it went to the Welcome Screen and then to the Align Screen, and froze after aligning. I attempted to initialize the PDA and the same thing occurs. I stops after screen alignment and eventually shuts down.

Re: Toshiba (Audiovox) PDA Genio e550c
Always start with the simplest answer first, so start by removing any memory cards, attached devices and cables and resetting it again.
If you still have the same problem check the manual for the Hard Reset procedure, it may seem you've already hard reset it by killing your battery but it's worth a try anyway when your getting this kind of issue.

After you change the battery you need to do a hard reset. This will erase all the info in your pda so you want to make sure you have it all backed up on the palm desktop To do a hard reset follow these steps:
1. Hold down the power button. 2 While holding down the power button, use the tip of the stylus and inset it into the hole in the back of your pda and gently press and release the reset button in the back of your pda. 3. When you see the message that warns you about erasing all of the info on your hand held select continue. 4. When prompted follow the online directions to align the screen. After that you will want to do another hot sync. Best wishes.
I am by no means an expert but I have had the same problem that you are having and I found that after I took my X5 apart and cleaned around the underside edge of the plastic housing frame that was at the edge of the screen the problem went away. I also cleaned the front of the screen very well and put a new back-up battery in. I have not had the problem since.
I suggest you replace the touchscreen though the procedure is not easy but I can provide you the instruction for how to replace it. If you can follow carefully the instruction of how to replace it, you will have a nice screen again. Please send your email to my address below:
I will reply to you the full instruction written by me included of how to diassemble the unit. This model is also called audiovox xv6600, Siemens sx66, Qtek 9090.. but thet has the same housing with some modification but my Service Guide can be applied for all. You can buy the touchscreen only on Ebay for $19.95.
you could set back the e570 factory default very easily.
On the left side of the pda you could find a small button, called RESET button.
You have to do these following steps:
The pda have to be turned off, then press the power button while pressing and holding the reset switch with the stylus, release the power button and when a screen appears, release the reset switch.
But be careful, when you reset your pda all data will be lost and make sure that all storage cards are removed!!!
