If you have the manual... check it to see what paper thickness you can use with the printer... some paper will not work due to it's thickness

Hello terigrossman,

This is a sign that either your paper is not loading up correctly and is activating one of the paper feed sensors, or the paper feed mechanism is not functioning properly. How long have you had this printer and do you keep a regular maintenance schedule. That is one of the problem I find when people have printer problems is that the feeder path is usually not maintained properly. First what I would suggest is that you try to check the feed path and clean it of any debris that may have accumulated during use, then if that does not work I would then suggest that you clean the roller assembly and the cap stands with a cleaning solution (alcohol can be used but I would not recommend it). Once this is done make sure the sensors are free of dirt that may have fallen into the machine.

The final course of action would be to do a complete overhaul of the feed assembly, which is the worst case scenario.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Shuttle83

Is the paper pushed all the way back into the MPF?
If yes, what type/size paper is your application sending?
If you try to print the internal Printer Settings report, does it print?
This error typically means that no paper is sensed in the MPF OR that the wrong type/size paper is in the tray. (MPF settings do not match job specs)

Dell printer 3100 cn laser

I had the dreaded 024-969 and was just able to print a test page.

I removed paper and reached inside the MPF. There's a spring-loaded lever facing upward, toward the back of the tray that the paper rests on and depresses. I toggled this up and down a dozen times.

I vacuumed out the entire tray area and then blew air into the same area by reversing the shop vac hose connection to the output hole.

Printer now prints.

Printing 5x7 invitation

use the mpf tray. go to the machine press menu down arrow untll you get to tray settings. right arrow over till u get to paper type...then down arrow till you see paper size...right arrow again till u see tray 1...down arrow till you see mpf..right arrow till you see letter. Now that you are in the mfp section you can down arrow and you will see serveral selections I would keep it at letter. when you select it an * will appear next to letter. Then select menu and you and the printer is set. Now go to the print option in the program that you are using and when the dialog box to print opens select properties. go to paper quality the mpf should be selected in the tray souce. Now go down and you will see the advance button, click on that you will see Paper/Output make sure it says Paper Size and Letter is selected. Media Type should say Plain 1. If the invitations is on a heavier paper like card stock click the down arrow and select Covers 1 . If your paper is coated like matte finish photo paper select Coated 1. Now click ok. Do a test print and see if you get what you want. If not, let me know.--Deeva

Dell 3000cn laser printer

This is usually related to the way the tray or trays are configured on the printer or the way the program from which your printing from is configured. If you are using ms office, as an example, if the instructions to the printer from the software (ms office) say to print this document to the Multi Purpose Feeder tray (MPF) using plain paper and there is no plain paper in the MPF, you will get this error. Conversersly, if the printer's MPF is configured to print only legal size paper, and the software you are using is sending a print job to the printer telling it to use letter in the MPF, you will get this error. Basically, the printer settings and the settings from the software must match in order for this error to not occur. The settings for the printer can be changed usinig the operators panel of the printer. Directions for this should be available in the users manual or from support.dell.com. The setings for the software shold be in the print properties/preferences of the software being used.

Envelope printing

Got a 3100CN and had the same problem but found that a) Changing paper size from the web doesn't work but b) Go to the printer control panel on the printer and use the menu to set the paper size for the MPF tray for FREE. Now your application under windows will overide the whatever the printer thinks and will print. Envelope via Word all work without problem. Suggestion . Configure two printers one B&W using tray one and one colour using MPF and you can now quickly select whether to use colour or b&w. Regards John N - N2UYI/G7LTQ

Printing Issue

Test the driver. Go in the properties for the printer and set the number of copies to 4. Try to print a Windows test and and see if you get the same error message. If you do, then the issue is the paper settings in Printing preferences and probably needs to be changed to LETTER paper. If you don't get an error message, the issue is the application you are printing from. Make sure the application is set to letter under printer setup.
