"cartridge incorrect" message

I am unable to clear "cartridge incorrect" from my all in one printer after I replaced the ink cartridge. I tried cleaning the cartridge and where you install it, as well as powering it off/on, but nothing helps. Could the cartridge be faulty? I threw out the reciept.

With reference to solution #1, you need to to get a firmware upgrade file named "CartErr Test.exe". Contact Lexmark.

My best guess would be incompatibility between cartridge and printer. I'm in touch with Lexmark regarding the "Cartridge incorrect" problem. They came up with the idea of cleaning cartridge as well as the connection points inside the cartridge holder despite the fact that my X3470 is brand new and never printed out a page! First installed with the start cartridge and later by a replacement cartridge with the part no. 18C0781E. The carton claims compatibility between this cartridge and X3470. The cartridge have benn tested on my other Lexmark Z735 printer without any problems.

Never throw out any receipts!!! A lesson my dear mum taught me a long time ago. You need to pay attention to what the printer is telling you. Incorrect cartridge error message could mean a clogged printhead, most people think they have cleaned properly but did you do it with proper cleaning solution. Was it a refilled cartridge or new one? Are you certain you did not accidentally touch the gold areas (printer points) as this can put oils and dirt or residue on the cartidge. Gently wipe both heads on cartridge very softly with a non perfumed baby wipe! Yes a baby wipe (people laugh at me until they see their printer go again!!!) Now try printing again. You can get rid of error message only when you fix the problem. If nothing helps, try uninstalling the printer and reinstalling with original operating disc. And yes, the printer cartridges can be faulty. Never dispose of your old receipts until you are virtually replacing the next cartridge. I keep all receipts for all costly items in a clear slip folder, or staple to original barcodes of box they came in. Did you try disconnecting usb cables to printer and reconnecting to reset it.

Incorrect cartridges message on printer screen c4183. help me

Complete the following steps in the order presented until you resolve the issue. Step one: Remove and inspect the cartridge
  1. Make sure the printer is on. Press the Power button if it is not lit.
  2. Open the printer cover, and then wait until the carriage is idle and silent.
  3. Press down gently on the top of the cartridge to release it.
  1. Figure 2: Removing the tri-color cartridgec00484998.gif
  2. Slide the cartridge out and inspect it.
CAUTION: Do not touch the copper electrical contacts or the ink nozzles. Figure 3: Electrical contacts and nozzlesc00211537.gif 1 - Copper electrical contacts 2 - Nozzles
    • Check the electrical contacts for debris.
    • Make sure all the clear protective tape has been removed from the nozzle and electrical contact area. Figure 4: Removing the clear protective tapec00211538.gif
  3. Reinstall the cartridge in the product and try again to print.
If after you have completed these steps you are still unable to resolve the issue, go to the next step. Step two: Make sure the cartridge is compatible Which cartridges you use depends on your country or region. To check the cartridge compatibility for your product, click this link, HP SureSupply . If your language or country does not display next to the globe icon (c01906983.gif ) select your language and location.
  1. If the cartridge is compatible, reinstall it in the printer.
    • Place cartridges marked with a triangle in the left carriage slot.
    • Place cartridges marked with a square or pentagon in the right carriage slot.
Figure 5: Print cartridges installed correctlyc01091334.jpg Figure 6: Direction to insert the print cartridgesc01091335.jpg
  2. After verifying that your cartridge is compatible, reinstall the cartridge in the product and try again to print.
If after you have completed these steps you are still unable to resolve the issue, go to the next step. Step three: Clean the cartridge contacts
  1. Open the printer lid and wait until the carriage stops moving, and then unplug the power cord.
  2. Remove the cartridge and place it on a piece of paper with the nozzle plate facing up.
NOTE: If you are removing a tri-color, photo, or gray photo print cartridge, try to clean the contacts quickly enough that the cartridge is not outside of the printer for more than 30 minutes. The ink can dry and clog the nozzles if the cartridge is outside of the printer for too long.
  3. Dip a clean cotton swab in distilled water, and then squeeze it to remove most of the moisture.
  4. Clean the print cartridge contacts. Do not touch the nozzles. Figure 7: Cartridge electrical contactsc00832021.gif
  5. Clean the contacts inside the carriage, inside the printer. c00246272.gif
  6. Either let the cartridge sit for ten minutes to allow the cleaned area to dry, or use a new swab to dry it.
  7. Reinstall the cartridge, plug in the power cord, close the printer cover, and then try again to print.
If after you have completed these steps you are still unable to resolve the issue, go to the next step. Step four: Reset the printer
  1. Disconnect the Universal Serial Bus (USB) cable from the back of the printer, but leave the printer turned on.
  2. Open the cover of the printer and remove the print cartridges.
  3. Close the cover and wait for the Insert Ink Cartridges message.
  4. Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and wait for one minute.
  5. Reconnect the power cord. If the printer does not automatically turn on, press the Power button.
  6. Open the cover and reinsert the print cartridges.
  7. Close the cover. If prompted, print a calibration page.
  8. Reconnect the USB cable, and try again to print.
If after you have completed these steps you are still unable to resolve the issue, go to the next step. Step five: Replace the cartridge If after you have completed these steps you are still unable to resolve the issue, replace the cartridge. If you do not have a replacement print cartridge, go to the next step. Step six: Print in backup mode If you do not have a replacement print cartridge, you can still print in ink backup mode until the issue is resolved. Remove the problem cartridge and print with the remaining cartridge.
  • If you remove the tri-color cartridge, the printouts will be in grayscale.
  • If after you have completed these steps you are still unable to resolve the issue, service the product.
  • If you remove the black or photo cartridge, the printer will print more slowly and the colors in the printouts may differ.

"wrong cartridge"- Printer is giving us a "wrong

Hi Sherri

I am having the same problem with my MP780 mine started doing the same thingafter deciding to use Calidad inks the large black ink leaked into the yellowink (stick to canon inks).

What I have done so far with no success -
Replaced the ink cartridges with new ones supplied by Calidad, still the sameproblem.
Removed and cleaned the print heads manually and to my surprize after soakingin warm water and multiple cleanings for over 1hr black ink is still coming outof the yellow ink head.
I still get the same message after all I have tried...

One thing I did manage to do is prime the yellow ink and got it flowing throughthe head again but it's still mixed with black... I wonder if you may have runout of magenta and dried the head...

Try priming the magenta ink by removing the head (don't touch or wet the metalcontacts at the rear, the ink heads are on the bottom) place on a clean lintfree cloth (or I just used damp tissues then dry tissues) you should get onelong black strip and two cyan, two magenta and two yellow strips on the tissue,if you do not then try priming by replacing the magenta cartridge and gentlypumping the cartridge up and down repeat until you get the ink flowing.

Replace the head and cartridges, press ok, turn the printer off then reset.

Let me know if it works or if you come up with another solution that works as Iam still trying to figure out how to fix mine.

Good luck

Error message: Incorrect Printer cartridge, when

the printer scan whatever been placed for it, so if you place a color it will read color and so on…now the printer read that the b lack cartridge is wrong according to your investigations, then the issue is between the ink cartridge and the printer scanner, so take out the black ink cartridge and do the followings, remove any type of materials that may cover the ink tank and make sure that he vent hole is clear, put the ink back after doing the same to the color and cleaning the inside housing, then use the software for self cleaning and alignment..

I keep getting an error message- unable to clean....I just bought and installed new ink cartridges, and the machine is still having trouble - I cannot print at all now. There seems to be no way to clear...

The waistinktank has to be replaced. DO NOT only reset the code but change the waistinktank! Otherwise ink will flow into the machine and will cause serious damages!!!!!!!! See link how to do that: http://www.fixya.com/support/t202485-cleaning
