The microphone on most of these slip cameras are very small and it is possible your finger or hand was over it. And to be honest since this microphone is so small the quality is not going to be very good at all. I don't know if there really is a solution to this outside of buying a high end camera if sound quality is so important.

How to get the hum out of the sound on this camera

What make and model camera? Many cameras only have a tiny microphone on the camera body, which picks up the sound of the camera. The only way to get really clean sound is to use a separate audio recording system, using a device designed from the beginning to capture sound. Keep in mind that the camera is primarily designed to capture images. Sound recording is simply a side effect for many cameras.

I recorded videos at a concert with the new nikon coolpix L810 and the sound on the video is horrible. What is causing the noise in my video? sounds like wind is blowing or a crackling noise

The problem is the microphone on the camera. The mic on the camera is for recording sound in more normal environments. The sound level on a typical concert is much higher than normal, and the mic on the camera just doesn't have what it takes to record sound at those levels.

One possible solution is to record the sound with a dedicated audio recording device, and combine the video and audio in your video editing software.

It stops recording by itself!

Two possible causes...your card is not a class 6 or better...card needs to be optimized by formatting it in the camera. This will erase it so download any pics first.

The sound recording is noisy

try setting the options on the sound recording lower and try to find the wind audio correction selection. that should work.

Doesn“t work anymore

Hi. Forgive me for asking, but did you try unplugging everything, including the firewire, and plugging it in again?

If you try this and it doesn't work, try shutting your laptop down gracefully, then unplug all the Firebox connectors including the electricity. Wait about 10 seconds, then reboot your laptop. Don't open your recording software yet.

Connect the electricity and the firewire as described in the Firebox manual, and then open your recording software. If this doesn't work, something might be wrong with the Firebox.

The problem you have happens once in a while with mine--it seems to be connected with overheating or something. Anyone else have this problem?

Good luck!

Sound on Video?

Hey Alymac,
Digital still cameras are not designed to record high quality audio. The mic used to record the audio is probably OK for normal audio situations, but not for difficult recording situations like concerts. To get a good quality video that has good quality audio I would invest in a high quality digital camcorder. What your camera was picking up is all the atmospheric noise that is going on around you. You probably didn't notice it because a concert is usually a loud environment. To get a good quality recording of a concert you would need a mic that focuses where it picks up its audio from instead of from all sounds surrounding you.

Sincerely,
Allan
