PS2 problems my PS2 turns off while playing

    Our PS 2 is cutting out after about 20 minutes and returning to AV on TV. We tried taking out of unit and has played ok on the floor for well over the 20 minutes. Daughter noticed unit was very warm when cutting out. Could it be overheating? Fan is coming on whilst it is on the floor. It is on a wall unit with space around and nothing else on top or below it.

    We have the big ps2 and after about 5-10 minutes the ps2 will "turn off" and goo back to the AV screen while the LED light will flahs red several times. We haven't done anything yet because we're nervous about making matters worse.

If it turns completely off without any indication of power LED then there is something loose connection in your powerboard or mains powercord is loose fitted.

Your console is an old one,and your lens too is probably weak.Try cleaning your PS2 lens Watch Video at end of solution to clean your PS2 at home....
You can also follow these steps to make your PS2 to play GTA San Andreas:
  1. Turn on your PS2 without inserting any disc.
  2. On menu screen go to [options] by pressing 'triangle' button.
  3. A new screen will appear select by pressing 'X' [DISC SPEED]and set it to [FAST]
  4. Then insert the game disc.
  5. Turn off your PS2.
  6. Press and Hold the [Reset Button] till the blue light turns on.Release the Reset button and press it again.
It will take a bit more time to play game,but first i recommend you to clean your PS2 lens,watch this video.


I've got something else to add.......you can follow above steps to play DVD movies if your PS2 dont play any.....!!!

PS2 burns rings on every game I put in it, and game won't play after that!
You've got a bad PS2. There is a problem with either the laser or the Disc Drive. I would not suggest playing any more games in the PS2 as it will ruin them all. Get a new PS2 or make Sony Fix it.

PS2 Console Problem
My ps2 actually did this for a long time. Either it "Died" as they say, or something is wrong with the internal part of the ps2. If you open it properly, there is a white gear you'll find. This keeps the cd, and a few other things on track. Turn this gear to the left 3-5 ticks. Close the ps2 and it should be fixed. If you have anymore problems post it please.

PS2 Picture Problem
Hi MG86,

Most PS2 games are dark and auto brightness controls will casue your LCD tv to brighten up automatically in response the dark video coming from PS2 games. I suggest you get into the menu settings of your TV and find a setting that will shut off the auto picture controls.
