You need to change the convergence IC's my friend. If you know how to solder and work on printed circuit boards, this is an easy repair, BUT if you have no experience, play it safe and let a pro do this repair for you. Good Luck

The tv turns on but there is no picture. just an audio thump thump. like a drum. any ideas

Look inside front panel. Look under right side picture tube for oil leakage on signal board. If you see a puddle and possibly corrosion, then the tv is toast.

Convergence IC will be mounted on a big Aluinuim Heat Sink They are Big Black ICs and will have Parts # on Them example STK392-570 There is 2 of them together.
Mats Electronics has them 1-800-628-1118

1998 Mitsubishi vs-60601 picture is dull and not as vibrant as it should be

the first thing I would do is to clean the lenses of the CRTs they may be coated with dust that will dim the picture. other than that the CRTs may be failing since the phospher of CRTs fade in brightness over time and the only solution is to replace all three CRTs. the CRTs I have discovered are no longer availible.

IM HAVING A SLIGHT PROBLEM

You need service. Sounds like the convergence is out of adjustment. As the picture is formed by a tri- gun arrangement (one for each colour), if any of them is not correctly aligned, you will see shadows on any sharp line like text, or blurring on a picture. The shadow or blurring will often be one colour i e. red, blue or green.

VS-60601 Mitsubishi Problem...

That model is famous for the CRts leaking onto the chassis which causes all kinds of problems and can cause the main circuit board to short as well as destroy the solder. Try looking at the board for evidence of a pastey substance that would indicate CRT coolant leakage. Let me know what you find.

Sounds like you have a convergence problem. Change the convergence correction UC's, but if you have no soldering or solid state repair experience, call in a pro to do this repair for you. Good Luck

Push Power button, green light goes on for a few seconds then nothing....

I would suggest taking a look at the power module if that can be replaced. The Fuse blowing may have only been the beginning of the problem. Any recent issues with under or over voltage in your home?
