Adobe photoshop I'm a real novice - can anyone in simple English tell me how to take a product photo of a necklace and give it a pure white background Help please

You can edit a picture using Microsoft Paint brush. It comes free with Microsoft Windows XP and other MS OS.
To access Paintbrush. Go to the Start button and in the pop up menu click run. In the open run box type "mspaint" command and press Enter key. A window will open and you can edit pics.
MS Paintbrush is a very simple software. If you want to do something really rich you have to separately buy or download and purchase "Adobe Photoshop" to really work like professional.

Too many varibles ,but I'll give it a try. are there any layers? does the background layer ( the one called background at the bottom of the list in the LAyers palettte) have anything in it? area all the visible layers above the "background" transparent where they are "white"? If this is the case it's much easier than if any of the layers are "white" or some other color- then you need to select out the items you want not to change color, using any number of the available "selection" tools, from the area you want to change color- now that can be a challenge.

1. open in Photoshop
2. Windows --> layer. Then double click the layer there, click OK the dialog box so that the "background" become "layer"
3. Select the white background. You can use magicwand tool, or if the object you want to keep is not white, you can use "select color--> white"
4. Edit --> clear.
5. safe as gif

Go to image menu under Mode check whether the Grayscale mode in checked. If it is checked than the u may not get color in the foreground and background color , so change that mode approxiate to u and the clor will reflect in your Foreground and background
