You said squelch is all the way down, you mean turned counter clockwise? If so, turn your rf gain all the way clockwise. Your cal switch and swr cal knob will not affect your rx/tx at all. All it does is move to radios meter to what ever you tell it to (when in cal mode) that way you can set the radios meter to what the actual swr of the antenna is.

Try the rf gain all the way clockwise. Please repost and tell if it you got it working.

Hi, You may want to check your PA/CB switch (should be in CB position) by moving it up and down a few times. A Cal switch if present in your model normally stands for Calibration which is a feature to measure the SWR of your antenna and should not really affect the TX/RX function of the radio. If still a no go, you may have to seek the services of a qualified radio technician or bring it back to your dealer for repair/replacement. Good luck and hopes this work out for you. Pls post again how things turn up. Kind regards.

    Hi again,
The SWR of 3 is an indication that you have a coax/antenna problem. SWR should be 1.5 or lower. You may have to check from the PL-259 male connector all the way to the base mount of your antenna. Another method of checking whether it is the Uniden or the antenna that is in question is by using a dummy load connected straight to the female SO-239 female connector of the Uniden. With a dummly load instead of an antenna, the SWR should be a flat 1. If it is relatively higher or will not calibrate, then something is wrong with the radio. If the radio will calibrate and show low SWR, then suspect your cable/antenna. The cable should be RG-58 rated 50 ohms and with a continuity (VOM) tester, show 0 ohms end to end, positve to positve, ground to ground but no reading from positve to ground. As with any communications equipment, antenna/chassis grounding is very important.
Assuming that the radio is ok, you have to focus on the antenna/cable and lower down your SWR. It may be that you have to double check the way the coax is soldered to the PL-259.
    Cheers.

I have a galaxy dx 959, just started not sending or receiving! Tried a new mic, still nothing! Hooked up my old uniden pc78 elite and it works fine using same hookups!

try changing the mic,the Galaxy and the uniden are interchangeable . If that doesn't work then it could be a cold solder point,or the final,or the driver,if so change both, or a capacitor or maybe an IC. Check the easiest first then go to the next and so forth. Does the radio even turn on and light up. Use common sense and eliminate what works then go to what doesn't.

What adapter do i need to connect a uniden bearcat pc78 elite inside my home

Hi Ray,

This is a mobile CB radio. According to the manual, it requires 13.8VDC @ 2.2Amps. You will need to provide an AC (house or alternating current) to DC (direct current) power supply capable of providing 13.8V at 2.2 Amps. This means the supply would be working at 100%, so obtaining a supply that would provide 4, 5 or more amps would be much less stressful on it and significantly reduces the chances of a 60 cycle hum present in the receive and transmit audio.

A representation of 13.8VDC @ 4A power supplies can be found here for $40 and up. Of course, you can go to a local electronics store and find them too. Check eBay for these, too - here.

You should be looking for a power supply that will provide 12 - 13.8 volts DC, and provide 3, 4 or more amps. The amp capacity is what will change the price - the more amps the higher the cost. You may see small "switching" power supplies - they are smaller, lighter & cheaper than traditional linear or transformer based types - so if that is the type you want to get you might want to get one that is a little bigger (5 or 6 amps) than the transformer type to get the same performance.

I hope this helps & good luck!

Looking for a place to download the schematics for the pc78 elite

Not familiar with the Elite series i believe it is the PC78 repackaged with orange lights.
Either way the cobra 29 and Uniden PC78s are roughly 90% the same radios Until you get to the Chrome cobra and LX and 50th anniversary the later being the same except the mic and some stickers oh and the price.

Have new dx959 doesnt get out very far talking 100yrds or so use rdking 56 mic mic works fine on old radio pc 78 and gets out fine also are 959 radios ok or junk has good reception

The DX959 has an output power setting knob. It's located next to the channel selector and is labeled RF Power. Turned counterclockwise will reduce output power. Turned clockwise will increase output power. Your switch is probably turned all the way counterclockwise resulting in low transmit volume.
Also, make sure the wiring for the RK59 is correct for the Galaxy. Even though it's a 4 pin plug, the pinouts may be different for the Uniden and Galaxy radios. Do a Google search for mic pinouts for your two radios to check.

Uniden pc 78 elite cb

Hi, This is a link to your old post re SWR 3....http://www.fixya.com/support/t180697-pc78_elite_cb As stated SWR 3 is too high, it should be 1.5 or lower. Fiberglass antenna are kinda notorious in setup and experience wise have not performed well or at all. Maybe you should try a different antenna (metal rod). Some good brands/models I have tried with very good results are K40, Hokushin, Comet, Oscar, Maldol, Daiwa. To check if you can receive, stick an ordinay length of wire ('bout 9' long) at the center of your radio's connector. RX should work (pls don't key the mic or TX).
