I assume you have the 4.3 vortec. If so, check to make sure you have the spark plug wires in the right position on the distributor cap. firing order is 1,2,3,4,5,6. right side of engine is 1 front 3 middle and 5 rear. Left side of engine is 2 front, 4 middle, and 6 rear. On the distributor cap # 1 should be toward front of engine and work counter clockwise from there. Hope this is helpful. KS

Would need mo info. When does it stop. If it has spark when cranking but not as soon and key comes out of start position you'll need to look at it as an coil power problem. Need to see if it is getting power when Ignition switch is in run position. Since the coil ground is controlled to make spark, there should always be 12 volts to the coil when switch is in run position. Some older cars, the starter solenoid provides power to the coil when cranking and the ignition switch takes over in run position.
Check all fuses under the hood. Test the coil with an ohmmeter. Check for battery voltage on the coil primary with key on.
If all good, suspect the crank position sensor. A bad sensor will cause no spark.
First we need to know if there is spark coming out of the coil at the coil. If not we need to check the ignition module inside the distributor, and the two wire harness from the distributor to the coil. If you do then we need to check the coil wire and the cap. Start at the coil and work towards the spark plugs, checking more than 2 after the cap. If we have spark at the plugs then we need to look at fuel injector pulse. Post back with your findings and we can help more if needed. this can be easy if you let it.
First spray starting fluid in the air filter. If it starts it is a fuel problem. If it doesn't start then pull one of the spark plugs and see if there is spark. If there is not spark then it is an ignition problem. If it is a fuel problem and the fuel pump is running when you turn the key on, then check fuel pressure. It should be over 35psi. If it an ignition problem start by checking fire at coil.
Take off the distributor cap. Check the star wheel that is splined to the distributor shaft that the pick-up coil uses. Make sure this wheel is not loose on the distributor shaft. It is right above the pick-up. If it is loose, replace the distributor. This is a common problem. If it needs one, all the part stores stock the distributor.
how about the coil have you tested it and DO you have a proper spark tester using a spark plug for testing the spark is no longer efficient! test the coil !!!
The "smoke" sound like an electrical short. It might be part of your problem. Maybe your ignition switch(one on the lower column)? I would check to see if there is fire at the spark plugs too. If your getting fire to the plugs I would spray some starting fluid in it to see if it tries to run. If it does, you have a fuel problem. Which might be related to your electrical problem.
Hello I would think if you replaced all those components, It would lead me to say its the ignition module, Or Pickup coil, they are both located under the distributor Cap. Fairly Easy to change should take about 15 to 30 minutes depending on you mechanical ability. I sure hope that Helps you out. If not get back and we can do somemore trouble shooting, For spark, fuel pressure. Ect.. Thanks Hopefully that will get you going.
Thank you
