I moved the scanner from one place on my desk to another, and unplugged the usb cable in the process. The next time I went to use it it wouldn't scan. I didn't do anything rough with it and I've restarted my mac several times since i re-plugged in the usb cable. When I try to preview it says that either i left in the protective sheet or the lamp is too cold ... i live in san francisco and i didn't put the protective sheet in... any ideas?
I have the same problem with the same message. One day it worked fine the next I got that message about the film sheet or the lamp is too cold. What can we do to fix this problem. Having the same issue after scanning film successfully, but when setting it to scan a photo again, I get the same message, and it will not scan. Tried turning off/on, making sure the lid is on correctly, etc.Having the same issue after scanning film successfully, but when setting it to scan a photo again, I get the same message, and it will not scan. How about some answers concerning this problem with the 8400 scanner!!How about some answers concerning this problem with the 8400 scanner!!
I have the same problem with my 8400f. I moved it across the room and am getting the same error message. I have reinstalled the driver several times. No go. I hooked the scanner up to a Mac that had never had the driver installed before and am getting the same message. I used the scanner successfully a month or so ago. Now nothing.

Hi ,
Disconnect your unit from your pc ( usb and power)
Insert your install cd and run the program
Restart your pc
When Windows has settled , connect scanner back to pc .
It should run normaly .
Best regards.
mbrindle is great!!!! Many thanks - I was just about to take it back as I thought the scanner was defective. Would never have thought i had to do that. Thanks!!!
I was surprised by the same problem this morning. First time I've had a problem with in years. Checked the lock... it was already unlocked. I solved the problem by unhooking the USB cable from the hub, restarting my Mac (seems to be the key), replugging the cable and restarting the scanner. Worked like a charm. Hope it works for you!
The "car sound" could be an indication that the scanner is locked. Check the lock switch on the bottom of the scanner. Move the switch back and forth a few times and then leave it in the locked position. Another possibility is that you are scanning heavy items such as books. If too much weight is placed on the scanner glass, then pressure could be enough to prevent the scanning element from moving as it should.
The code 201 sometimes can indicate a power issue...meaning the scanner is not getting enough power. Try connecting the usb cable to a different port on the computer (preferrably directly to the computer and not through a USB hub).
uninstall again. download updated drivers from website then install the software again. make sure the usb cable is unplugged. install software frist then plug in usb cable make sure it is powered on.

I also have this problem and get that same error message. Reinstalling the drivers did not work for me either.
