You can download the instruction manual for your product at http://pdf.crse.com/manuals/2899893131.pdf Please try following the instructions listed for the use of the DVD mode and see if you are operating it correctly.
According to the operation manual, C 13 error indicates a problem with the HDD or the inserted DVD is dirty and/or defective. If cleaning/using a different disc does not solve the issue, then the unit will need to be submitted to an authorised SONY service centre for repair.
This could be expensive if the recorder is no longer under any warranty, and, if a built in hard drive is involved, replacement and reconfiguration may be necessary for this model. Get a quote, so that you will have an idea of the likely cost(s).
This service/error 'code' is part of the unit's self diagnosis function.
I have a SONY RDR HX-750 video recorder, that as of late has frequent
"dub error" incidents...this unit has had a lot of use since purchased.
It has served me very well until now. I have erased several recordings
(many hours), and optimised the hard drive in an effort to correct the
problem...to no avail. The problem persists. I can therefore, ownly
deduct that the dvd drive is very "dirty", and needs to be "cleaned"
(HOW CAN I DO THIS?)...or there is something wrong with the hard drive?
Can you please help? Many thanks for any help and your time and
consideration. Have a very good day!
are standard definition video sources. Number of lines output is 576
lines, whereas your HD TV set has 720 or 1080 lines. This difference
may result in a poorer image. However some DVD players are able to
“upscale” picture to obtain a very good picture. Check if your DVD
player has the following connectors: YUV, DVI or HDMI. For more
information, refer to the instruction manual of your DVD player.
Some HDMI or DVI featured
DVD players also have an internal processor that can upscale pictures
from a DVD to 720 or 1080 lines to provide an excellent picture from a
standard definition disc to your HD TV set. Those settings are
available from the setup menu of your DVD player. Please refer to the
instruction manual of your DVD player.
your DVD player does not have those connectors and only has a SCART
connector, or S-VIDEO, or composite, there is not much to do to improve
the picture quality. Just make sure that you are not using the cheapest
cables and that the picture settings of your TV set are correctly
Some high end TV
sets have a picture improvement engine that can soften a noisy image.
Make sure that it is activated from the setup menu of your TV set.
Please refer to the instruction manual of your TV set.
If people and objects have weird white outlines around them. This may
suggest that your TV sharpness is set too high. Make the correct
sharpness adjustments from the setup menu of your TV set.
Make sure you use good quality cables and that your cables are not too long (less than 5 meters long).
I had to pay the $149 for a refurbished system, lost all of my hdd data, and had to deal with Sony's HORRIBLE customer service for a few hours of my life I will never get back. I recieved an identical 60 gig ps3 with only a 90 day warranty. When I asked about PAYING for a longer warranty they said a longer warranty absolutely wasn't available. Pretty bitter about the whole thing. New Ps3 works fine, but now I shudder every time I turn it on, for it may be the last : (
I had the same problem, which, curiously, is slightly described in the instructions manual (towards the end) as an electrostatic problem. They tell you to unplug the DVD for 24 hours : it works but does not prevent it for doing the same thing later and, in my experience, in shorter and shorter times.
I decided recently to mount a ground with an electric thread from one screw behind the DVD to the corresponding plug : to day, I still hadn't any problem for seven weeks (compared with one month regularly and eleven days the last time.
Aha ! excuse me, I'm french and perhaps not perfectly bilingual...
