The red light on the scanner seems to be on most of the time
Whether we are scanning or not the red lights stay on. If we position the scanner just right it will go off for awhile. If we place a paper sack about 8 inches in front of scanner the light goes out. It doesn't matter where we have the scanner.
We have 2 registers and the other scanner doesn't do this.
If you are using magellan 1000i with no button, then it must be your scanner broken. But If you use a button trigger try to push it a while. The Button is on top of the scanner, with a white / light green color.

There are several types of testing scanners. The cheaper type need an check light to stay on showing check engine light. The more expensive scanners show real time readings whether a check light is on or not. There can be a big assortment of problems that may give the symptoms you show. Have someone check the Vacuum level of the engine.
repairpal.com/brake-hydraulic-system-red-warning-light If the brake hydraulic system red warning light comes on and stays on, this indicates... and seems to come on and off depending on whether the vehicle is turning, ... if it is discovered that the light was illuminating due to a low brake fluid level.
Please try the following to resolve your issue:
1. Unplug the USB cable and the AC adapter from the back of the scanner. 2. Toggle the Transportation lock (the plastic switch at the back of the scanner) back and forth 5 times, ensuring that the lock is all the way in the unlock position. 3. Reconnect the USB cable and the AC adapter cable, and then try to scan.
Try this as a last ditch effort.
Remove the software.
Reboot the computer and come off line.
Disable the Anti Virus program.
Now install the soft ware.
If the red light still flashes then assume it is new scanner time.
Your 'transportation locks' may have been engaged. (Check lower-left-hand-corner of the inside the scanner cover and the left-back side)
