Display problem My ACER 5100 is playing up. The LCD won't display anything it powers up to a grey colour and I can adjust the brightness by the keyboard but no display. A remote monitor plugged into the SVGA socket will work. Any help appreciated

Thanks for that but I've just realised I amde a mistake it's not a 5100 but a 5000 would this make any difference to the diagnosis?

I have looked at all of the available pictures of this model PC and all of the images show a Fn key on the lower left side of the keyboard. It is one key to the right of the Ctrl key (the bottom right key on the keyboard)

The screen on my aspire 5100 is so dark i can hardly see it

hi mary welcome to the forum! 1)you have an Fn key bottom row left, hold down while also pressing right arrow, bottom right. Each press increases brightness. Each press of left arrow decreases brightness. 2)go to the manual of Aspire 5100 that you there is the option "AcerClearVision" in the software "AcerArcade". See manual:"Acer Clear Vision is a video enhancement technology that detects video content and dynamically adjusts the brightness/contrast/saturation levels so that you do not need to change the color settings if the movie you are watching contains scenes that are overly dark or too bright." So you opened "AcerArcade". There you take: "movie or cinema--> settings -->display settings" en there you change in the option 'color profile' 'ClearVision' to 'Original'.

Acer aspirw 5100 brightness

1.The Function key (Fn), and the F6 key are pressed to turn the Backlight off to conserve power.

2.The Fn key and the right side arrow key, are pressed to increase Brightness.

You have a TFT LCD monitor screen. (Thin Film Transistor)
The LCD screen cannot be seen clearly without a Backlight.

The Backlight is a CCFL. Cold Cathode Fluorescent
tube. Resembles a small fluorescent tube used in residential, and commercial lighting.

The Backlight can go bad after time, and weaken.
If so, it will have to be replaced.

Sounds easy, it isn't.

The TFT LCD monitor screen is made up of layers. It's enclosed in a thin metal frame. Resembles a picture frame.

The frame is removed, after removing the LCD screen from the laptop's top cover.

The LCD screen transparent outside layers, are separated partially from the rest of the LCD screen.
The Backlight is removed out of the side.

This gives you an example of removing, and replacing an average Backlight,

I have an Acer 5534-1096, TOO BRIGHT

click on start
then control panel
then display icon
then select the settings tab and click advanced
then select the colour tab and you can adjust the settings in there

Very low brightness

1. try to adjust using KEYs Fn+arrows to the right or left.

2. The components that provide the brightness are the "inverter" and the "flourscent backlight tube". Inverters are known to be problematic,so I would suspect the inverter first.The inverter is in the bottom of your screens plastic housing.It's very easy to replace and it usually costs between $40 and $60.

Samsung tv settings

it depends on what your using it for, adjust colour tones to what you think looks natural, contrast between 80-90, keep sharpness below 30. just have a play around till you find what best suits the source material.
