My normal TV mode shows my cable in all colors, but when I switch to my PS3 or DVD player on component the picture only comes in Black and white.
The 37" Vizio I just bought has a very confusing feature where the same input can be used as either the Y channel of the component or the full video channel for composite. If you plug a component source into the TV and then select the composite input ("AV" on the remote), you will see a black and white version of the full component signal (makes sense as the Y channel is just the luminance component). As sad as it is, I was stumped by this for a while until I happened to hit "COMP" and got full color. FWIW, the manual warns about this, but it really doesn't emphasize the point. I wonder how many returns they get because of this.
Try av instead of component
You are using component wires. These are RED GREEN and BLUE colored cables specially made for component connections ( superior picture to A/V quality). Anyway, you should make sure each cable is plugged into the correct corresponding colored component jack (red to red, blue to blue and green to green). If the cables are good, you should have a picture with good quality color. You stated that the black & white picture is with both your PS3 and DVD, so I would check the red, blue & green component cables & get new ones if they are bad. You may be able to substitute your A/V cables (the yellow, red & white cables) to test if your component video input is working right, just make sure you plug the cables into the same colored jacks on both the TV & PS3 or DVD player. Hope this helps.

i checked the cables and have the same problem.I think my jacks on the tv are bad. what should i do.
When you did you get the TV??
Had same problem switching from one Vizio TV to a new one. The old one had green/blue/red (COMPONENT) on the back of the TV the new one yellow/red/white (COMPOSITE). Had to switch the back of the DVD from component out (green/blue/red) to composite out (yellow/red/white) and then plug the yellow/red/white into the back of the TV. And, of course, Vizio input to COMP
