Question about Hotpoint RVM1425 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

At times some butons don't work

I have Hotpoint RVM1435WD002 and from last couple of days some of the buttons, especially the fan, the counter light and buttons at the bottom row of the panel (at times) have stopped responding. At times everything just works fine. For the buttons that reposnd, the microwave jus works great. Any suggestions will be highly appreciated. Thanks.

I am renting an apartment, so I do not know how old the microwave is. The first week we were there we realized that HALF of the keypad does not work. There is no rhyme or reason to it. the number 7, 8,9 and 0 do not work, the "time cook" button does not work. I do not think the power level button works either. The only way I can use the microwave at the current time is to use express cook options 1-6. I have not bothered the maintenance department about this, as I am hoping there is an easy solution to this-- or I can at least tell them what parts to order.. Help!!

You may have a bad keypad, which in many cases can be replaced.

A bad keypad may be worn out due to age, damaged, or it may have gotten wet or otherwise contaminated.

Moisture and contamination can be caused by not using the fan when boiling on the stove top (for over the range models), direct spraying of cleaners, by storing the microwave in an unheated garage or shed, or infestation.

I warn my customers to never spray cleaner directly onto the microwave keypad, since the liquid can get inside and "lock up" or even ruin the keypad or controller.

My Advantium 120 microwave shows the time, but none of the buttons respond to being pressed.

Try turning it off at the power switch, leave off for several seconds then switch it back on, it may reset the control unit, if not take it to a repair outlet,

Lights on bottom don't work. Sockets fell apart and vent fan now does not work. A bulb blew out , then all of this happened.

We see and repair this a lot. The problem is on the control board, which we regularly repair for $39.95 nationwide.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

The lights can can be inoperable or stuck on or stuck in "night light" mode. Sometimes this will similarly affect the fan operation or inside light, too.

We'd also recommend buying top-quality bulbs.

They can blow if subjected to vibration such as door slamming or a weak floor, or electrical fluctuation, especially if they are cheap bulbs or they are left on all night.

Instead of having the board repaired, you can order a new control circuit board / smart board if that's economical, and since your sockets are bad, they will need to be replaced, too.

There's a YouTube video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

If you're changing the board yourself, you'll need to detach the keypad connector:

Some connectors will have a lock.

your transformer windings are loose and the 60 cycle frequenct is setting up a mechanical vibration, you can try and look for anything loose inside the unit, but if the transformer windings get loose theres really no fix but to live with it
