Question about Roland Vs-2000CD Digital Studio Workstation System
Hi i've got a problem with my vs not starting up from the initialize screen,it say's that my IDE,HD,CD is ok but it wont start or boot up or load from there,it useto fine!is there a combination of buttons that i can press on start up or something else i could do to fix this problem?please help me as i have searched every where and looked in all my manuals i can't seem to fix the problem. Thanks hear from you soon i hope!Gabriel.
I have figured out a way to get around this problem without losing your data or sending it to Roland. I have three roland 2480s and have 4 hard drives. Buy another spare drive and when you load up to a different IDE drive shut it down, then put the old drive back into the unit and it will boot from the last known ide. Make sure it is not the same IDE # that was giving you the problem. You will get at your files but you better start to backup and defrag. I will not delete files on my roland unless I am willing to defrag. Buy an extra drive from a third party. You can see a company that sells this stuff on ebay and they are very good. Didnt work for me. HERE is the CONFIRMED fix for this issue straight from Roland. --------------------------------------------- It sounds as though your VS-2000CD's hard drive is fragmented and needs to be formatted. If you have any files and/or audio in your VS-2000CD that you need to backup, then our Roland Service Center can try data recovery. You may contact us at one the phone numbers below for more information regarding data recovery. If you do not have any files and/or audio that you need and you are willing to completely erase any and all files and/or audio from your system then you may apply the following steps to unlock your unit and format (erase) your hard drive: Unlocking the VS-2000CD Turn the VS-2000CD OFF. With the unit OFF, hold down track 4's TRACK/STATUS button as well as the FX2 button and then turn the unit ON--be sure that you are holding these buttons down BEFORE YOU TURN THE UNIT ON. Do not let go of these two buttons until the VS-2000CD has loaded completely. Once the unit has loaded up to the main screen you will need to format the drive; if you do not format the drive then your system may continue to lockup. If the previous step unlocks your system then please proceed to "HDD Formatting". If the previous step does not unlock your system, your hard drive may be malfunctioning and may need replacement. Please contact one of the phone numbers listed below for help regarding hard drive replacement. HDD Formatting: Hold down SHIFT and press F1(Project). Use the ZOOM buttons to cursor up repetitively so that you select drive "IDE:0". Press the PAGE button so that you are on page 4 of the Project Menu. Press F2 to select "FmtDrv"(Format Drive); you will then be on the Format Drive page. Turn Physical Format ON and turn Surface Scan ON. Press F5 to choose OK. ----------------------------------------------- Well this is the 2nd time I have had to find and perform this procedure. Hopefully it will continue to work when the project gets stuck, and not completely die to where I have to have the unit repaired. I love Roland, but this kind of thing is pretty damn scary. There is a combination, you need to call Roland Tech support they know it (I need this too if you get it polease email [email protected]) My VS-2000CD is stuck as well. WE need to format but until then, there IS a way to start the unit without loading the last project. They need to have this info readily available, as I haven't been able to find it. Best of luck!

Usually answered in minutes!
hi i had the same prob all you need to do is get the up date file from the www.rolandus.com site and follow the read me instructions and up date from your pc or mac let me know how you went!
I was playing an audio cd( for the first time) when suddenly there was shrieking noise. I tried stopping the cd but everything hung! later use the power off bu when I rebooted it asked me to wait forevever!
My VS-2400CD will not complete the start-up procedure - it gets stuck at the "load project" screen and just hangs with the "please wait" msg. I've tried turning power off and re-starting but it gets to the same point each time.
Plz help me ..
