Question about Canon PIXMA MP830 All-In-One InkJet Printer
The printer got an error code initially (5010, I THINK), when I tried receiving a fax. So I turned it off, and back on and I constantly get an error saying 'Release the scanner lock switch and turn the power off and back on'. I never touched the scanner lock switch and it is in the unlocked position. The scanner head was moved all the way to the right for a while, then one of the times it moved back to it's home position to the left. But, I still get the error. I've tried moving the scanner lock switch to the locked position, then back to unlock and I still get the same error. The printer is useless while in this error mode. Any thoughts?
You can always try to install the printer on a friend's pc as a test of the printer...do you have the install cd? if not try canon's site to download it.

open the scanner. locate the scanner lock switch. now locate the wires attached to the scanner lock switch. touch these wires together, creating a switching effect. now turn on scanner.
you can always try to find the button-hold combination by pressing 3 buttons simultaneously that are located far from each other...I know that works for SHARP copiers. Try all combinations....it can't hurt it now.

Unfortunately, the problem occurs whether or not the computer is connected. It is an error that happens right during power-on and self-check of the printer itself. And, once the printer is in this state, the only button that works is the power button.
By the way, the initial error code that I saw the first time the printer 'got stuck' never appeared again. I only get the error to unlock the scan head.
I was hoping that opening it up would be the last resort. I looked at doing this originally and didn't see any easy way of getting access to the electronics inside the scanner module. I'm an EE, so I'm comfortable working on the inside, but, as I said, I was hoping it would be a last resort. I'm more worried about breaking a plastic clip when trying to get inside and the scanner never really going back together tightly.
Is there any way to force a factory hard reset of the printer through the system mode (referenced to when looking how to force the printer to print on CD/DVD's and changing to EUR mode), or through a button-hold combination?
Turns out that the machine was still in warrantee (2 days over, but Canon said that they would honor it). So, I took it to an authorized service center. I was told that they see quite a few of these scanners failing (more than any other part of the machine). Said that they were going to replace the scanning unit.
Thanks for taking the time to read my posts and giving tips! That is what makes the web so great.
Hi, I have a B200 error and I am attempting to isolate whether the issue is the logic board/ printhead or both for an MX850.
The following parameters apply when switching the printer on at the top panel on/off switch:
(i) B200 error appears;
(ii) If I open the scanner bed with the power off and physically remove the printhead and switch printer on with the cradle lock handle down and lower the scanner bed, I do not receive the B200 error.
Question: Does this establish the fault lies with the printhead or could it still be the logic board?
That is, with the printhead removed, if the logic board is faulty will still give a B200 error?
A related question is what is the standard technical procedure for isolating the printhead as the faulty mechanism?
With thanks, Tim
