Black square in middle of screen about 25in X 25 in
While in cabletv mode, inadverdantly hit an "unknown " key on the cable co provided remote control by Scientific atlantic..Explorer cable box. The remote control from cable co is of no value in removing the black square. The original remote provided by Mitsubishi is unable to remove the caption from the screen, which appears to be the underlying problem causing the screen to reproduce the "black square" about 25x25.
Any ideas out there in cyberspace?

Re:
If a black square appears on the screen and you can see the picture around the edges, it means that the closed captions are on and set to "TEXT". Go into the TV's menu, navigate to the closed captions page and set the captions to OFF.

hi,
i think ur tvs closed caption option is in ON position. if it is ON then there will be a black square int left side.
1. press the "CAPTION" key on the remote control.
2.press "0" key on the remote to select options- OFF, CAPTION 1, CAPTION2,TEXT1,TEXT2,AD QUICKCAP.
select it to OFF mode.
ok
your closed caption is on, this might be set on the cable box or the tv, look in the audio or set menu. If you dont have the remotr you should be able to navigate the menu on the tv with the onset controls
With cable input connected to "RF in"on rear of unit make sure vidoe input is set to "Tuner". This will show up on the TV screen. Change channels numerically or using up/down arrow keys on DVR remote. Note there is a slight pause between changing channels. You probably will have to "autoscan" for channel setup/etc. If you say your TV set is old; it probabaly is equiped with coax
connection only/set TV channel to "3" or "4". when yot opt to play vcr/dvd it will override your
cable channel selected. Hope this helps!
1. Display MAIN MENU. Press ACTION key on remote. 2. Display SET UP TV screen. Use arrow keys to select TV icon and press SET key. 3. Display CAPTION screen. Use arrow keys to select CAPTION and press SET. 4. Select CAPTION MODE. Use arrow keys to select CAPTION MODE. Press SET to cycle through caption settings until it says OFF. 5. Press ACTION key three times to return to normal screen.
You can download the manual from Panasonic here if you need a copy.
Sounds like your closed caption is on. In the menu or on the remote there should be a setting or button for the CC. It seems to be in the text mode. Either turn it off or change the setting from text.
He, he. Somebody activated the subtitle mode on the remote. Desactivate the CC mode on your menu and it'll go away or at least if you want CC put it in CC1 Text1
you have accendly turned on closed caption. the closed caption you have tured on is not the normal closed caption we are used to . it is called colsed caption text. either on your remote or in you manu, find the way to turn off cc & you should work ok.
good luck.
