SOURCE: My Philips DCM230 home stereo

Your output I.C. might be faulty. Output I.C. is the one converting the audio from cd's,tuner, auxiliary to sound which passes to your speakers.
Since your Output I.C. is defective then the unit will not generate any sound even your inputs(cd,tuner, auxiliary) is working.

It is quite technical so I've advice you to look for a qualified technician to isolate the problem and do resoldering also for some dry joints on the main board.Dry joints also will might caused for damaged a parts.

Thanks for using fixya.

SOURCE: Sound distortion on medium volume with radio, cd, aux, ect.

The problem is in the audio driver or output stage which is normally an ic semiconductor, it is recommended that a technician look at the stereo to assess cost.

Max volume is way too low

what causes that issue is that your treble and bass are probably turned all the way down. just adjust those up to max and your unit will be alot louder.

I have a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban with the factory radio. The radio works fine but when I put in a cd and turn the volume up some, it just stops playing for about 20 sec. It will come back on at a very low...

sounds like your popping the breaker, after a while your speakers will go, theres just too much power for it to handle, take it to a car audio store and get them to test it, you may need new speakers

Make sure none of the tape monitor switches are on as this is a typical symptom when one or more of the tape monitor switches are active.
