I have no problems with syncing my X5 with ActiveSync. However, I cannot see any of the subfolders from Windows Explorer. This prevents me from being able to copy files to and from my X5. Can you help?
I too have had this same problem.
I can usually resolve it by turning of my 3rd party FIREWALL
then folders are visible.
Still occasionally encounter "sector not found" error while copying to an sd card on the unit.

Dell made an entry into the market of Personal Digital Assistants (PDA)
with Axim X5. The Dell Axim comprises of families of X5, X3, X30, X50
and X51. The Dell Axim PDA can be connected to the computer either by
using a cradle or a sync cable. The sync cable connects the device to
the computer directly. Here are the steps for connecting a Dell Axim to
a computer using a sync cable.
Microsoft ActiveSync software must be installed in order to connect the
PDA to the computer. This software is found in the Dell Axim Pocket PC Companion CD.
The Axim X51 PDA has a 36-pin connector, while the X3 has a 22-pin docking connector.
Connect the USB connector found at the end of the sync cable to the computer.

I use AS 4.1. I think the Axim will use up to AS 4.5. I had no problems with sync until SP3 came out. Now I must resart the computer with the Axim connected to sync. If the computer goes into suspend it will no longer connect until restarted.
Attempt a restart with it connected.
I have known others with no ability to get the Axim and other devices to be recognized. Unaware of a solution in that case.
For exact to the point instructions we need specifics about what you want to do and with what but here goes...
Can't really help with the connect to the internet without more info than you provided. You need a wireless card, access to a wireless system and the drivers for the card. Even then it is not always consistant.
First I'm assuming you know that you need and have installed Activesync on the computer.
To transfer files to the Axim you simply drop them in the mobile my documents folder that is installed on the desktop when sync files is selected in Activesync. If you don't have it, open Activesync and select" options", check the "files" box. A desktop icon will be added.
If you mean install program files... most of the time you install on the desktop and it adds files to the x5 when you sync.
Sometimes you may need to transfer CAB files to the x5. In that case you will drag and drop the file on your x5 in my computer or on the icon on the desktop just like any other file move to another location
If your trying to sync with the wireless card, I am not familier with the method but in order to get the card to work it needs drivers that must be installed from the computer and through Activesync by wired connection first
Might be set read-only? Try right clicking on it, going to properties, and seeing if the read-only option is checked. Me, I found a program called Unlocker, located at http://ccollomb.free.fr/unlocker/
Without seeing the error files, it's hard to say what the problem is, here's a few guesses
1. Did you type your contacts into the default contact list? This is the one at the top of the Outlook folder list. You should NOT create a subfolder because ActiveSync by default only synchronizes that one file.
2. You may have an antivirus or internet security program that is preventing ActiveSync from synching. This would show up in the error log. To try this, turn off:
- Any firewall programs (including the Windows default one)
- Any antivirus programs
- Any internet security programs
If this solves your problem you should add them back one by one to isolate the issue. Then when you find the problematic program, manually add ActiveSync to the list of always allowed applications.
Try deleting the partnership in ActiveSync on the PC, and then create a new partnership. I saw this problem, when I connected the first time to a PC. I tried connecting to a second PC, and had no problem. When I went back to the first, it required that I create a new partnership, and no problem with the connection.
To copy word documents, simply connect your device to your computer, click "Explorer" in ActiveSync, and then transfer the word document from your desktop to your Pocket PC. ActiveSync will do the conversion from Word to Pocket Word for you.
As for wireless internet service, you need a wireless Compact Flash card and data service. Sprint is one of the few companies that offers this, and there is also the Pocket Spider from Enfora which can connect on some wireless networks.
It should if you have USB on the W95 machine. ActiveSync is compatable with W95. It worked for me with Outlook 98 on a Win95 laptop synching to a PC2000 PDA (Jornada), however I was using a serial cable.
