KitchenAid Side-by-side (ksrg25fkwh05) - Freezer not working

My freezer stopped working and has thawed everything out (I lost everything). The refrigerator is working fine. The freezer is blowing cool air but not freezing. Any thoughts?

I have a KitchenAid Superba Side-by-side KSCS25INSS00, 3 years old. The centeral wall in the front at the door seals was getting very hot. I read on a blog to clean the coils to solve this problem, so I did, but only in the front below the doors. It did not help much if at all, and then the freezer started to thaw and the ice melted and pooled on the floor. I read more and took the inside of the freezer apart and saw the coils in there were not frosted over and then pulled the unit out from the wall and opened up the lower back panel. I found lots of dust and cleaned it of the coils in the back of the unit. I plugged the unit back in and by the next morning and the centeral wall was much cooler, and the freezer was doun to 0 degrees. Two or three days later the new ice was melting onto the floor again and the freezer is now staying at 38 degrees F, it is set for 0 degrees F. The freezer seems to be staying about 1 degree F cooler than the referigerator side. Any suggestions on what to do next.

The odds are it is a circuit board problem...I had a huge Amana 27 cubic foot side by side and it did the same thing...I diagnosed the problem and replaced the circuit board ....which actually controls everything...one sure sign is to pull the unit out as the other person did and to access the back of the unit where the compressor is...(the comptressor should be on 85% of the tme....if it is not on and warm or hot to the touch then it is a circuit board problem....since compressors will continue to run if there is a defrost problem (most of them anyway), or an Ice build up, etc etc. I don't recommend a layperson trying to replace the circuit board (mine cost $115,) but if you do it is generally in the door mine was a long thin circuit board behind the fridge door handle. .P.S. the heat that the other person felt on the door and around the door seals is normal lots of people don't even know this heat strips exist until something haappens and they start feeling around...these heat strips are to prevent frost of ice build up where the door meets the fridge framd...which can happen due to the extreme temp difference between the two...(inside temp and outside temp).

I hope this has helped...good luck...Knowledge gives you a base from which to yield power over unscrupulous repairmen whop may try to take advantage of people.
Again ...good luck and let me know what happens.....Please rate me .....The Fang.

My freeser is working other side is not cooling the top vent getting air but not underneath

You need to thaw the ice which has clogged the passageway from the freezer to the refrigerator. To do this, you can turn off the whole unit for several hours and let everything thaw, or you can remove the panels and locate the vent(s). Melt the ice with a hair dryer, then reassemble the panels and restart the refrigerator. There is a small chance that the fan in the freezer has frozen up as well. When the refrigerator compressor runs, you should also hear a small fan in the freezer run. If not, you will need to do some investigating to find out why.

FRIDGE AND FREEZER QUIT COOLING

you might have a defrost problem. Frost free models have a heating element that is controlled by a timer to automatically defrost ice, defrost timer turns on defrost heating element every 12 hours to melt ice in freezer and allow good air flow.
You can test defrost element with an ohm meter(located inside freezer coils-will have two wires going to a plug connection), if OK replace defrost timer (located in various places depending on make and model

Everything works but no water

Try turning down the freezer a little.

You can 'thaw' the water line in the door by hanging some towels in the freezer with the door open. Should thaw in a couple hours. At least this way you don't need to empty the freezer.

Frig working, freezer stops working, then starts working again

The computer control circuit board was found to have a burned out circuit. The board is on the lower back side behind a panel, easy to replace. Just need the proper model number to order the board.

Freezer is only cool, everything melting

Sounds like a defrost problem. Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.
  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.
