Samsung SH-S182D DVD writer causes a PC reboot when I put a blank DVD+R in. It reads disks with data on with no problems. In fact if you reboot the PC a few times with a blank disk in the DVD writer you can eventually get a clean boot and then write to the blank disk.
If the pc reboots, then a driver or hardware fault is the cause, try uninstaling the dvd drive in device manager, then restart pc to install it again, or if you are able connect the dvd drive to another ide cable connector incase its a fault from the motherboards ide channel.

Thanks for the prompt response. I tried moving the drive to the other IDE and the problem remained. I have now contacted Samsung and they are going to replace/repair the drive.
Any blank DVD or CD Causes PC Reboot problem, running Windows XP error 0x0000008E comes up, tried for ages to find solution.
New LG DVD writer fitted. No. GH22NP20. Removed old Nero burners. Uninstalled DVD drive from device manager. Reboot the system. But "blank DVD reboots" problem still exist
