Question about Hitachi Director's Series 65XWX20B 65" Rear Projection Television
I have a problem that randomly starts as a mild wavy pattern and progresses with worsening waveyness (horizontal waves) and the colors distort usually to a greenish hue. It tends to start at the bottom of the screen and work its way up the screen as it intensifies. The problem is becoming more frequent in the last couple weeks. I can turn off the tv and immediately turn it back on and 80% of the time it will rectify the problem completely. It may start in again with in a couple minutes or function perfectly for several hours. Any ideas? There's a big sale at best buy...do I need to attend it? pedchiro
I do wish sgregg would stop giving advice on things he obviously knows nothing about. The 65XWX20B is a standard projection set and does not have a lamp in it. It has 3 separate picture tubes. The power board is not the problem either because you would get no picture if it failed. You most likely have a convergence IC which is on the verge of failing and is starting out OK but acting up when it starts heating up inside. A good tech will replace both STK392-110 IC's with the newer updated STK392-150's, realign the convergence circuits and be done in about an hour and a half. When I do a housecall for a set like that I charge $150, but techs in your area will vary so ask around.

Well its probably gonna hurt your feelings and your wallet because its gonna be a powerboard problem which will cost a pretty penny or your lamp which will cost around $200. Try and take it in to a serviceman and itll be around 60-70 bucks just to look at it. HOW MUCH DO YOU LOVE YOUR TV? remember people need parts too. you could make some money on ebay for the parts if you decide to hit up the sale.
