D-Link DI-604 router

On my daughter's computer, we got the router working for the main pc, but when we try and connect a second one, it says not connected...but I took that tower home with me and it connects to my server just fine, I also have a router...anyway, I took the cable off the working pc and swapped it for the one on the second pc, and the cable works, so now I'm confused...I know the card is working..so what's left.

I did try a different port, no connection. I didn't try the working port with the second computer, it's worth a try.

Did you try a different port on the router? Did you try the working port with the second computer? This sounds like a defective router, but I'd run the setup program again t be sure.

I have connected my DI-104 Router to my Motorola Surfboard modem and have two LAN cables to two other computers. However, neither computers recognize the connection. I have my main computer connected via...

Turn the router off.
Use an Ethernet cable to connect one computer to one of the 4 'LAN' ports on the computer.
Turn the router on.
Click Start
Click Run
Type CMD
Press ENTER
Enter IPCONFIG /RENEW
Press ENTER

Look for lines of output like:

IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.40.150
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.40.1

Open Internet Explorer.
Enter: http://192.168.40.1 (if that's the IP-address on your computer for the 'Default Gateway').

You should see a D-LINK "login" web-page.
Try an ID of 'admin' and a 'blank" password.
Once logged-in, you can check the router-settings, and then "configure" it.

Modem and d link

Hello there,

Your internet connection should be setup properly in order for the router to give connectivity to both your computer.

You must contact your ISP and ask them for the IP's and put it in the router.

Cannot share connection

The IP address that you have is an automatic IP address the Windows generates. It basically means your computer is not getting an IP address from the router (DHCP). You should try powering everything off. Then, in this order, power on your modem, wait 30 seconds, then, power on your router, wait 30 seconds, then power on your computers...This should fix the problem since one computer is working already.

I am trying to connect my D-Link router to my PC. I changed providers from DSL to CAble, and now it doesn't work. When I try to hook up the router to the cable modem, I no longer have internet service....

First, you have to directly attach to the cable modem whichever computer the instal tech used to establish your account. Make sure that connection works. Then re-insert the router and clone the MAC address of the instal computer to the router. Then check your DHCP settings. Make sure it's set to get a new IP from your new provider. You may then have to then release your IP and resubscribe.

Switched internet service providers now the router doesn't work

You might want to check the routers settings to make sure that it is not configured to use PPOE connection which is for DSl and the Broadband connection. You can find the routers address by searching google. Linksys uses 192.168.1.1. You can always try resetting the router by pushing the reset button usually found by the power plug in the back.
