Sounds like you have an internal fault (probably on the power supply board) This is the board that generates the various voltages for the various parts of the tv circuitry. The best is to take it to reputable tv repairer(just what you didnt want to hear hey)

Thank you very much for your help I'm going to take it to a repair man this weekend. I wish I could've fixed it myself thought it was a fuse maybe. Thanks anyway the site is the best.

Sorry to bother you you wouldn't have a picture that I can look at what was like

  • Anonymous May 04, 2013

No picture available. If a fuse was blown then it would have done so for a reason. Normally due to a faulty component causing a high power draw on a part of the tv circuit.Let me know how you get on.

SOURCE: blinking light wont turn on Toshiba TV CE19H15

Yes, it's quite possible that you indeed may have sufferd from a Power Spike, induced by lightning during the storm, esspecially if plugged in during said storm. I have had quite a few customers ova the years with this exact problem. I always advise my clients to unplug ALL devices during a storm, and for ones that simply cannot be unplugged then some sort of Spike/Surge Protection device MUST be used. As a matter of interest, I have written many a report to insurance companies to support a claim for a replacement.

SOURCE: blinking red light no picture or sound

The TV is on protect mode.

Try first leaving the TV power cord unplugged for some times, let say one hour or so.

Also ensure that the fault is not coming from a faulty receiver box sending bad signal, check if you get same problem with no receiver box or dvd connected.

If that does not work, and you keep having a flashing led on front of the TV, and tv turning off by itself after a while, that indicates a fault condition.

The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the TV goes on protection there are only two possible reasons.

1The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection circuit.

2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or abroken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , startingthe flashing light.

If you are in situation one, then theTV will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours, sometimes even minutes.

If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.

Common faults that can occur are a blown capacitor on power board, a convergence IC has blown, or a fault on Digital board.

Check also the video cable or any external connection cable, if the cable is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing state because of the video cable.

If under warranty contact the manufacturer ringing the number on the user manual

If you want to repair at your own expenses, just locate any good qualified repairer.

Check your color wheel. There is a DIY guide for replacing the color wheel. Mine did the same thing yours is and my color wheel was all busted up. Unfortunately after replacing the color wheel my set continues to do the same thing, but this could mean I need to replace the ballast as well.

SCreen turns red then shuts off

The 46H84 has 3 CRTs instead of a lamp. Red, Green and Blue. Your red CRT is shorting out shutting down the set. Here is how you test that theory. Remove the speaker grille, there will be an access panel behind the grille remove that and you will see the CRTs red is usually on the left. hit the power momentarally to locate which tube is red. then power down and unplug the power cord. Carefully remove the tubes Circuit board. ( you may have to carefully slice the glob of silicone applied at the factory to get the circuit board off) Once you have the circuit board off the Red CRT make sure it isnt touching anything and try powering up the set. If the set stays on and the other 2 CRTs light up. That tells you the RED crt is shorted and thats whats shutting your set down. Let me know if I can assist you further.
