I installed a larger 3 volt battery and put a micro switch on the positive side.

The screw on the side nearest the battery door needs to be removed so the door can slide out, then open to expose the batteries.

you may obtain the stock replacement for the tool, designated as a Duracell DL1/3N or as I did, utilize two more commonly available 1.5 V cellls Ag 13/357A but you need to then bend the positive battery contact terminal (the one more inside than outside) so that its point of contact is lowered somewhat..use your leatherman no problem.

Mine stays on until the battery dies. Brand new still have not used it for the first time.
