Question about Dacor DMT2420SS Microwave Oven
I have a Dacor ECS230SCH Double Oven... Serial # V-G-03193781
Problem - Oven #2 (Lower Oven) "Bake" button and "Timer 2" button do not work.
everything else on Oven 2 works fine... specifically #2 Broiler,Cleaning Function, light and cancel functions work normally.
3. All touchpad funtions for Oven #1 (The top oven) operate normally.
What I have done:
1. I reset the oven 2 "reset" button located behind the latch
2. I removed the touch pad from the oven and cleaned all the connections using compressed air.
3. I've removed electrical power from the oven... reset the clock and even put the lower oven through a cleaning cycle.

What usually breaks is the door open lever.
On an over-the-range model, only the control panel needs to be removed. Please unplug the oven first.

Once it is apart, you'll be able to see how the door open button would press against the door open lever, which would then lift up against the door latch heads (hook-like projections on the door) and the door should open.
Dacors are made by Sharp, and one of these service manuals below may help you.

TO mdambros
You have a bad magnetron. We see this over and over.
If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.
You'll save a lot by taking it in yourself.
If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical information on safety, disassembly and door switches at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk
There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting.

The door switch you suspected is bad, and it must be replaced. They normally cannot be cleaned or burnished and be reliable.

SOURCE: M/w only working when slight pressure applied to door button
That would be a defective secondary interlock (lower door switch) or its mount.
Door switch
or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening
the
door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.
There are
plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and
onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.
The screws on these
mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be
activated properly.
Sometimes it's
a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just
out of position. This tab
can be hard to see, since it is under the
bottom edge of the switch.
We have
the service manual for this model and have uploaded it to our
site here to help you.
You will need the free
Acrobat Reader
to view or print it in case you don't have it.
If you only need a
switch, you can order a universal type here for $5 postpaid.

Are you cooking it this way, as shown in the owner's manual?
"Use an overturned 9 or 10 inch oven proof glass pie plate on top of the
turntable when popping bagged microwave popcorn."
You can also use a paper plate in a pinch, but as always, never leave a microwave unattended while it's cooking, since some paper products can have impurities which will allow overheating and possibly fire.
This is a convection oven, so it has a metal turntable tray.
Microwaves cannot penetrate the metal from below like it would on a standard microwave's glass tray, allowing for even heating.
If you've lost your owner's manual, you can get it here.

Hi Carol Eggers, thank you for your inquiry!
I understand that your wall oven is not allowing you to perform self-clean after you replaced your bake element. It sounds like it could be an issue within the control panel or sensor inside of your oven. I would recommend having a professional come out to properly diagnose your appliance. -Matt
