Touch pad doesn't work

Touch pad worked heating some water and then 10 minutes later didn't work. Fan and light work. Touch pad lights up when door opened or fan or light turned on but doesn't respond to touch.

Have the same problem. Worked fine yesterday but today touchpad not working. Fan and lights work fine and pad lights up when door is opened but nothing. Ours is black, nt white. Purchased in early 2006 after Katrina so it's not that old. Tried unplugging and letting it sit to see if mayber it needs to reset. Wanted to see if anyone else was having the same problem and it looks like we had it the same day!

Ut the tech sheet did mention that intermittent F7 problems are usually caused by poor connections. So I pulled the ribbon connector off the control board and cleaned the copper connectors using a pink pencil eraser. That whupped that puppy! But then I went out on another service call, same oven, different house. The pink pencil eraser trick didn't work on this one so I had to apply some of that famous Samurai gray matter. To identify the problem on this one, I cut power to the range and disconnected the ribbon connector that connected the touch pad to the electronic range control (ERC) board. Then I re-applied power and let it sit that way for 24 hours after which the customer was instructed to call me and report on the error code status of the oven. If no error code was reported, I knew the touch pad was the problem. If, on the other hand, the F7 error code came back, then I knew the (ERC) was the culprit. In this case, the error code did not come back during the test period and, using my keen, Vulcan-like powers of deduction, concluded that the touch pad was defective. I replaced the touch pad and problem solved!

Exterior of oven , top and both sides gets very hot to touch, when cooking +- 10 minutes or more the last couple of days; no Error ( E41/42/45 or 47 are being displayed. Fan is normal, functions: OK

There could be food or oil buildup around the door frame which will absorb some of the radiant and microwave energy whilst cooking. Give it all a good clean and see if that helps. If everything else is working properly, it may be a problem with the cooling fan. Microwave ovens have a "stirrer fan" inside the roof or rear of the cooking area to disperse the microwaves and some convection / microwave ovens also have a cooling fan which assists in dissipating heat within the cabinet.

Lite stays on,clock works, timer works, but keypad will not set to heat

It could be the pads themselves. The touch pads are notorious for going bad. The light staying on could be a bad door switch. Check there first. There are three switches in the door interlock assembly. One of them could be causing the unit not to reset so it can cook.

Why is the outside panel hot to the touch?

Many factors at play here. Are you cooking on the range? Are you using the microwave? Is the light on?
There is very little current going to the touchpad and if there were a short in it the touch pad would not work. It is just heat from another source. Don't worry about it.

Kenmore microwave oven doesn't heat food. I had

Make sure that the program controller is working if not check power - step down supply, the pads are responding- if not faulty pads- or the door switches, if the switch contact are not good then it will not trigger the processor to switch on the waveguides. If the lights or fan work without any display or action of program being triggered to start then it can be a possible fault on the main board or the processor. Sometimes insect secretion can short the board and display panel and so the processor can work in such an erratic manner. If so clean, solder and reset the board. Now identify the parts by clicking this link: http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/microwave/a/5/141/identifying-microwave-parts.html

If there is no heating please do not switch on unless you have confirmed the fault. It is possible that the Magnetron is faulty, the temperature cut off is faulty or the main capacitor is short. It is also quite possible that insect can get into the oven and create soft spots. When you switch on these will create a short and make the voltage jump and in the long run damage the magnetron. Check this link to know how a microwave works:

http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/microwave/a/5/1443/how-a-microwave-oven-works.html

So Remove cover after disconnecting , check for dirt/moisture in the cabin, if so wipe clean and dry, check the magnetron and area clean and use an jet air to clean off. Check the wave guide covers, if food had deposited
then it must be checked or replaced. See link:
http://www.espares.co.uk/advice/microwave/a/5/1146/how-to-replace-a-microwave-guide-cover.html

Now keeping clear of the microwave, switch on; use a cup of water inside to test.
If you notice any sparks shut off as the magnetron or the main HT capacitor can be faulty. replace with same type.
If there is heating without any issues, you can use the microwave safely

Touchpad will not work after boiling water underneath it for 12 minutes without fan humidity cause touch pad to stop working , I have a GE mdv 2040 with green display touch pad

you can change the touchpad to help with this but whenever you have a microwave over a range you are going to have issues with this. you have to make sure you use the vent on high whenever broiling anything to prevent the moisture from getting in the touch pad because all your touchpad consists of is two stickers and some flat wire so moisture can easily getting into it cause it to stop working for a period of time. but changing it is the best thing you can do

No numbered touch pad for use setting clock

I think on this one you press the CLOCK/TIMER pad, then enter the desired time using the 10 MINUTES, 1 MINUTE, AND 15 SECONDS pads then press CLOCK/TIMER again.

If that doesn;t work, press STOP / CLEAR then try the above again.

Let us know if it does not work.
