The magnatron (heating element) is located in the cavity behind the control. If it's leaking microwaves onto the electronics, this will occur. This means the Mag should be replaced and a radiation test run on unit.

Try this first. The mag's little cooling fan probably broke loose and fell off the fan motor's shaft. The fan keeps the mag cooler. The machine shuts down when the mag gets too hot because the fan blade is just lying in there, Needs to be glued back on the shaft after the shaft is roughed up a little. NO other parts needed. I used contact cement to hold the fan to the shaft. Its located right behind the control panel. It's not difficult to repair.

Troubleshooting Ge Microwave that is acting bizarrely

Sounds like the main control board, but further testing should be done to rule out other possible causes. One thing I would do is to check to make sure it is plugged into a grounded outlet that is actually grounded. Bizarre behavior can be caused on some ovens because of a lack of a ground connection.

Hi Ben,
This has got to be an intermittent power to the control PCB problem. The control board asking to set the clock means that the CPU has been reset by losing power. First, make sure that the problem is not the outlet by plugging in a small lamp or digital clock to see if it works intermittently or resets. Leave it plugged in for at least 24 hours.
(If using a lamp, put in a small 20 watt light bulb or CFL).
It could also be a bad connection to or at the fuse holder in the microwave oven. If all of the wiring and connections look good, it's most likely a bad connection on the control PCB probably around the transformer on the board. Be careful.......

Clock frequently goes blank and needs to be reset

You have a faulty display module due to one or more components leaking. Some models have a seperate display module that can replaced without the complete board having to be replaced. If not, the board needs to be replaced. You need to ask your spares suppliers that have info. on that model.

GE spacemaker Power goes off and clock needs resetting

Try going to the breaker box and shutting off the power to the microwave for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, turn back on and set the clock. This fixed my clock and turntable both. Apparently turning off the power resets the software in the clock.

GE Spacemaker Microwave Clock inop

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.
