I had the same problem and got a TV repair man to fix it for real cheap. The whole fixing took less then 30 min and he goes to your house to fix the TV. He fixed it for an excellent price that left us astonished. He lives in NY. Email me if anyone needs his contact information. You wont be disappointed.

Also:
try resetting via the side button with the unit on.

unplugging the unit from power for some minutes (not seconds).

Connecting a sony dvp-sr500h dvd player to sanyo tv. using the red, yellow, white cables that came with the sony player get me no picture, no sound. do I need additional cables? the menu on the tv screen...

Here is the quick start guide
https://docs.sony.com/release//DVPSR500H_qs_EN_FR_ES.pdf

You seem to be using the Video & Audio connection. Start at the Player. Connect cables to YELLOW Video, RED Right Audio WHITE Left Audio Then go to TV and find the YELLOW input RED input and WHITE input. On some TV's they are separate, some combine them with the COMPONENT inputs (Component is 5 cables you will use 3 of them if you only have COMPONENT inputs)
Some TV's have an input button on the remote but no on screen selection. Try pressing the input repeatedly to access the other inputs. Lastly you will not get upscaling if you are using the 3 cable hook-up. To get upscaling use an HDMI cable to connect. Be sure to not have both types of cables plugged in at the same time HDMI by itself is best. If you reply with the modelof the sanyo TV I'll try to get you more info.

Tv works jsut no pic black and white screen says weak or no signel?

If it says "weak or no signal", this means your are not showing the correct input or have no channels programmed.

To find the the correct video input:
1. turn On the device you are trying to see
2. press the [input] button on the side of the TV until you get a picture (wait 3 seconds between pressing the button)

You program the TV by accessing it in the User Menu.

Also, You may access the inputs using the TV remote. Each input button (V4 and V5) may need to be pressed muliptle time to access the picture . When you press this on the remote you will notice the input change from Composite 1, Component 1, S-Video. V5 will show composite 2 and component 2. Using the side panel allows youto scan all inputs in case you are not sure.

I'm confused how to connect my DVD player with the TV. which cables connect where. I dont have a user manual.

Mukhhe,

good day,to connect your DVD to TV screen follow this steps.

1) prepare your RCA cable ( 3 colored cable yellow/red/white)
note: always remember this

yellow = video
red and white = Audio (left and right)

2) at the back or front display of your TV screen you'll see RCA socket marked as "AV1 input" "AV2 input" etc... if your screen is only mono sound you can only see two sockets Yellow=video white= audio

3) at the back of your DVD player connect the RCA cable following the color code yellow to yellow white to white and red to red. after you connect the cable to your dvd player now connect the other end of thr RCA to your TV screen input.

make sure you'll connect it to "A/V input" not "A/V out" then after connecting all the cables, from the remote commander of your TV screen press a button indicating "A/V" some mark as "TV/AV" press this button until your screen display the back ground display of your DVD player.

cheers,
mark

Hi CindyCee,

I have tried to post solutions, but they seem to be too long, so I will have to post more than once to get the info to you.

Convergence problem/

To enter the service menu.

1. Changing the input to an unused input (i.e. Ant B). Turn off the set and wait for the fan to turn off.

2. Hold input and power buttons on set down simultaneously. When service menu appears, release both buttons (input button first).

Note any settings before you change them. I haven't challenged it but I have read online in the forums that entering the service menu may void your warranty. Service manuals are available online at ebay.
