Since you're using vista you can connect camcorder to pc uding ilink or firewire cable. usb conection would not work. no dirvers or sofwtare needed, you can use windows movie maker to capture videos. check your computer for any ilink port. it is a different connection from usb. go to www.sonystyle.com and type this model number, vmcil4615, for you to have an idea what firewire cable looks like.

Here is a link to make sure you have the proper drivers. Also, Sony recommends (for your specific camcorder and operating software) that you transfer with the use of an i-link cable versus usb.

DCR DVD 201E Handycam and Windows Vista

Hi,

I have the same problem; however there is a workaraound. If you plug your camcorder in to your usb drive and power on so that the Vista Plug 'n' Play can automatically install a driver for using as an external drive (bit like a usb stick)

When you go to my computer you will see an extra drive explore and see no files!

Well in the camcorder itself, there is a function to finalise the disc, perform this action and you should be able to see the files including the dvd menu files on the disc in my computer.

Drag and Drop to your computer. And use with what ever Software you want to.

This could also depend on the recording format you have set in the camcorder.

Hope this works for all.
