Kenmore 587 leaves a cloudy film on everything

This is new for this dishwasher. It's been working fine for more than 8 years. It's really noisy, but gets the job done. Now there's a cloudy film on dishes. I've tried changing detergents and using a jet dry. Is it a rinsing issue? I'm sure my landlord won't want to buy a new one. CB

everything sounds just as it always has.

Like gubster's dishwasher, ours has been operating fine for a number of years and it just started to leave the glassware cloudy. We have not changed detergents and we are using Jet Blue. The heater is definitely working.

Sounds like the pump motor or impeller are toast.does the unit sound like its not pumping the water like it used to?

  • Anonymous Aug 14, 2007

its definetly a rinsing issue.i would still check the sump screen and wash arms.have you changed the type of detergent?is the unit hot enough{the element on the bottom of the unit working}?the way to tell if its working is open the door and push a butter knife into the hole where the door latches in.then put the dishwasher into a drying mode and see if it gets hot,if it doesnt that may be your problem.

I get a film on the inside of dishwasher as well as dishes at the end of a cycle. You can really see the cloudy film on glasses. Dishwasher is only 18 months old.

Cloudy film is usually from hard water. Or it means the dishes arn't drying properly. you wanna make sure your using jet dry and that your not using liquid soap. Liquid soap is a killer of dishwashers and creates mineral deposits. If you have hard water getting a water softener helps too. Theres a cleaning agent called dishwasher magic that works to clean the dishwasher . You wanna make sure your heater is coming on too.

Our dishes have white film on them. 5 repairmen have said they have no idea to the cause. We have tried everything vinegar, rinse aids etc. Could it be a pressure problem due to a plumbing default in...

on an empty cycle fill the machine and use some C.L.R or other lime and scale remover in the machine and let it wash through the cycle.

try putting more water in the tub once the fill cylcle has completed and the wash cycle starts.Make sure the incoming water temp is at least 120 degrees.

if there is no change in the washing of the dishes
you may need to replace the main wash pump. if there is a change then you need to replace the fill valve or increase the water pressure to allow more water in the unit during the fill cycle

Hi.
Check the drain well, replace the salt, and ensure that you are using the right detergent , as specified on manual.

Also check the drain hose and inlet hose at the back of the appliance.

If all this is OK, rather that attempting repair, call Kenmore at the number listed on the owners manual.

They will send you a technician at home free of charge, since the machine is new, and it has two years warranty, it is not worth attempting any repair that can invalidate warranty.

Talk to Kenmore first.
