The TV is approx. 18 months old. I bought it new and it has been great until today.
When I turn on the TV it works normal for about 30 seconds. It then appears to turn off (no sound/no picture) but the little green power light remains on. After 35-45 seconds it turns back on (picture first, then sound). It remains on for about 15-20 seconds, then off again for 35-45 seconds. It will continue to toggle on/off indefinitely.
I attempted the reset that I was advised by the Sony WebChat helper. (This is unplugging the TV for 60 seconds then trying again). After this did not work, he said I must take it to a certified repair shop. (2 hour drive)

The tv have a problems, with the board that call the Tuner signal board. This is the board, where the incomming broadcasting cable wire plug into this board. This a new tv,take it back where u bought it.Exchange it for a new tv replacement.
There is at least one more part in the TV that needs to be replaced, perhaps more. To know for sure which part(s) you would want a repair tech to take a look at it so you're not buying parts you don't need; especially since parts for today's TVs aren't cheap. You can purchase a new 42" LCD from www.walmart.com starting at $578, so you really want to think hard before putting another few hundred or more into what you have.

try switching to a different video source and play a DVD or a game system. If the issue is still there try unplugging the TV for 5 min. and then plug it back in.If the problem works fine on all other devices except the video source that has the issue try hooking up the same device your having the issue with to a video source you know works if that works then you have a bad video source on the back of the TV, if it does not work it's either the cable going to the TV or the device itself.
If picture quality is poor, be sure you aligned the bulb in the correct manner and be sure the cover for the bulb is not loose. Also, you might want to re check you picture setting as it might have gotten reset when you pulled the plug (I hope you pulled the plug when replacing the bulb).
Heres another solution (maybe temporary) to the problem of no picture and no sound for 30 seconds. I had my tv's power saving setting on "standard" before. After I switched it to "reduced", the problem was fixed. It has been almost two weeks without the problem. I think its a good fix until the new bulb comes in the mail.
Yes it is a temp problem as you found out for your self Great call on that BUD.. the best thing to do is contact sharp to see if they have had simular problems and if there are any recalls on this model . If not they will instruct you where to send the monitor into to be fixed.
