Also having problem with Nuvi 660 and LG VX8700.   Phone pairs, and I have occasionally gotten sound, but most times, the call cannot be heard by either party.

I had identical problem with Garmin 660. Worked fine for three months. Then trying to Enable Bluetooth, the screen froze with "enabling bluetooth". Reset did not work dozens of times and PWR OFF and ON did not work. As long as I don't try to use Bluetooth it works fine. All worked, even Bluetooth, at first. What's UP?

Same bluetooth disabled problem occurred after 3 months of use, on the same day the 3 month trial FM Traffic subscription expired. Is it coincidence or are they possibly related?

Sent a support request to Garmin regarding the phone disconnect issue and they responded quickly with an effective fix - hope it helps you as well.  BTW, the final step is very important.   At first I didn't think the fix was working but after a little time I noticed a bluetooth update being applied.

The master reset is as follows:

      1.  With the device off put your fingertip on the UPPER LEFT hand corner of the TOUCHSCREEN and press down.
      2.  While pressing down on the screen go ahead and power the unit ON and continue pressing the screen until you see
a message that says DO YOU WANT TO START UP IN MAINTENANCE MODE.
      3.  Touch yes.
      4.  Now choose the selection that says “clear waypoints.”
      5.  Now you will see a message that says DO YOU WANT TO CLEAR USER DATA AND WAYPOINTS.
      6.  You will then click YES.
    7.  You will then go through the set up steps again. (language, time zone, etc…)

Once you have completed these steps, let the unit sit outside for about 15 to 20 minutes so that it can acquire satellites.

Same problem - unit was working fine then when I turned it next on bluetooth was disabled. Hit the enable button and screen freezes with the "Enabling Bluetooth" words. Tried reloading lastest system fireware - did not fix the problem. Rang Garmin support - no idea how to fix the problem said that would "research it and comeback to me" - that was a week ago now and no contact. Now don't know what else to do??

I fix this problem for my Nuvi 660 Europe. I found resources in Italian language only: 1 - go to http://www.garmin.it 2 - in the search texbotx (i the up left corner of the page) type bluetooth and press enter 3 - click on the 1st faq that will appear 4 - download the file FileBluetooth.zip 5 - unzip the file 6 - copy 006B055301.GCD in X:\Garmin\RemoteSW directory 7 - reboot your nuvi At this poin bluettoth would be ok newly. Bye

I am having a problem with my Garmin Nuvi 660 that I hope someone can help with. The voice sounds hoarse or gravelly and cuts out before the final directions are given. I would appreciate some help here as I have not yet called Garmin and I depend on this unit for accuracy. Thanks everyone.

This is a great site. I was having the same problem with the screen locking in the bluetooth enable screen. First line support wanted me to send the unit in. Software support sent me a file and I installed in, all in about 5 minutes. Thank you much! Power to the people!

I had trouble finding the FAQ and linked file. I called Garmin support. The level one tech walked me through a master reset and a few other things without effect. He was going to have me send the unit in for service, but I asked whether they could replace the file via the web. He said that they couldn't do that, but software support could. I got shifted to software support and they were aware of the problem. Within a minute they offered to email me the appropriate file to fix the problem. Although it would make sense for Garmin to post this as an FAQ with the linked file, calling them does work as long as you don't waste too much time with level one support.

How do i pair my 265wt with my LG vx9900?

Garmin claims the nuvi 265wt (et al) supports the LG VX9400, which means it's also likely to support the VX990 (but one can't be certain).

1. From the main screen on the nuvi, touch Tools>Settings>Bluetooth.
2. Select Enabled.
3. On the VX9900, do the equivalent to enable its Bluetooth port.
4. Let your phone search for Bluetooth devices.
5. Select the nuvi from the list.
6. Enter the nuvi Bluetooth PIN (1234) into your phone.
You can do steps 4-6 from the nuvi if your phone is already enabled for Bluetooth.
Good luck!

I have a Garmin Nuvi 680 I would like to use it as a hands off cell phone in my vechile. I no little about blue tooth. How do I go about getting my cell phone to work with my Garmin. Thanks Joe

Hi Joe,

1. First, you have to turn your bluetooth function (power) on your phone on. See your phone manual.

2. On your Nuvi, press the wrench symbol, then the bluetooth symbol. Press the option to enable bluetooth on your Nuvi. You will know that it is enabled when you see the bluetooth logo at the main menu on your Nuvi.

3. While in the bluetooth menu of your Nuvi, press the ADD button. It will tell you to turn the bluetooth function on your phone, which you should have already done in step #1.

4. Your Nuvi will start searching for your phone and if it finds it, the brand name will show up on your Nuvi's screen. Select the phone model and press OK. It will then tell you the pass key code. On your phone it will ask if you want to pair with your Nuvi. Select yes and enter the pass key code into your phone. This is usually 1234.

That's it. Your Nuvi will say you can now make phone calls. When you unit is paired to your phone and the bluetooth is turned on your phone, you will see a telephone handset at the main menu. Press that and you'll be able to select options to speak the phone number, enter it manually, transfer your phone address book to your Nuvi, etc......

If your phone isn't recognized by your Nuvi, make sure you have the latest bluetooth firmware on your Nuvi. It can be updated with Garmin's webupdater program available on their website.

Here's a link to the solutions..

The 2 best suggested fixes were probably that you need to reset the garmin ( instructions at link)
Or update the bluetooth software ( Probably the best solution)

Garmin NUVI 660 BlueTooth

I had the same problem, and this is how I fixed it. Now it's working fine.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International,

If you are currently running the most current version of bluetooth software, and you are still seeing issues where your compatible phone is still not connecting properly, please try the below procedure, which will reinstall the version of bluetooth you have downloaded in case there was any corruption during the transfer or installation of the bluetooth version.

1. Power the unit on

2. Touch View Map

3. Touch the ETA/Speed button in the bottom left hand corner.

4. press and hold your finger over the speedometer for 10-15 seconds until a new screen appears.

5. Touch next at the bottom of the screen until the top blue banner reads Bluetooth Status.

6. Touch UPDT P, then Touch yes.

7. At this point the unit should go to a page that says Updating Bluetooth Firmware, allow this to finish, once finished, press quit, then press and hold the back button. At this point, go back through and try to connect your Bluetooth device again.

Bluetooth enable

The complete solution - user reset is NOT necessary:

Whenever I purchase a new electronic device, the first thing I do is update the firmware. This has me in a bind in this case.

I updated my Nuvi firmware, then my BT firmware.

A few days later, I got the "Enabling Bluetooth" hang. I followed the advice on this page, but "Bluetooth Firmware Update" would not appear in the webupdate list.

1. Browse here and install the latest version of WebUpdater:
http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27

2. Turn on your Nuvi, press view map, press speed, press and hold the middle of the speedometer (the circle that says 0.0mph in it). After five seconds (maybe a bit longer), the engineering menu will appear.

3. Press "Next" five times (once for each page). You will arrive at the "Bluetooth Status" page.

4. Press "Clear". Confirm by pressing "yes".

5. Press "Updt PR". Confirm by pressing "yes".

6. This probably did _nothing_ for you, but to be thorough, I've included the steps.

7. Connect the Nuvi to your computer. Run the webupdater and if the latest version is already detected on your Nuvi, simply proceed and browse the list of further updates.

8. If "Bluetooth Firmware Update..." (or similar text) DOES NOT APPEAR skip to step 10 below, otherwise complete your fix with the next step, step 9.

9. If the "Bluetooth Firmware Update..." (or similar text) appears in your list, select this update and agree to term of service, and have the updater load the firmware onto your device. Unplug your device. It should powerup automatically. Power off. Power back on. Your BT should be back in business. Do NOT continue with the next steps. You are done.

10. If "Bluetooth Firmware Update..." (or similar text) DOES NOT APPEAR in the list, then you need to remove the offending update that is making WebUpdater believe that your Nuvi is up-to-date.

11. You can access the Nuvi by clicking on "My Computer" and double clicking the Nuvi link.

12. Click the "Garmin" folder.

13. Click the "RemoteSW" folder.

14. DELETE "006B055301.GCD". This file will be one of two GCD files in the directory: <DRIVE>:\Garmin\RemoteSW. The file without the "Date Modified" is the original firmware. The other file is the new firmware that the Nuvi believes is installed. By deleting the newer of the two files, WebUpdater will see that your Nuvi is out-of-date. Return to step 8 to continue your fix.

This should resolve all permutations of this nasty bug.
